When crossing the dam you are on the Appalachian Trail. It was cool to walk that very small portion. The views of the lake from the dam are amazing. The visitor center was clean. Staff were friendly.

We were just riding and enjoying the mountains and rode up on the Dam. It's huge beyond description, also has a great view.

We were in the smokies for thanksgiving and decided to drive over to North Carolina and stopped at Fontana Dam. It's truly an impressive structure. There are great history boards outside the visitors center; it was closed for the season when we came by.

We took a road trip out of Robbinsville and stopped in. Great place for a break, clean restroom facilities, nice little gift shop. I walked the dam for some great views of the river and mountains.

This is an amazing work of science but my favorite part was the visitor center w the history of the men and families who built the dam. We enjoyed the walk across the dam as well as the beautilful views and picnic areas. It was an added bonus to get to walk on the AT trail and see an AT... More

The Fontana Dam is an exceptional visit when in the eastern TN area. It is an area staple hydro-electric facility functioning year round but the visitors center has limited hours in the non-peak season. The main visitors center is at the upper level of the dam, but the dam can also be viewed from the lower level on Power House... More

We went to the Fontana Dam and walked around the over look, you can drive over the dam. Gift shop was nice. Don't take drones, someone did that day and the little ole sweet ladies in the shop called the authorities. We asked about the Larry the Cable guy show "Only in America" when they opened the dam. The employees... More

When in western North Carolina in the fall, you drive around, looking for sites to see and we found this. It was interesting, but we wanted to get to the top, One we found that off Hwy 28 , we found an easy viewing area, easy walk and very accessible to visitors. They have docents there to answer your boring... More

I'm not sure why this place gives me the willies, but it is Beautiful. There is something about the deep water that is a dark turquoise color that just makes me feel a bit uneasy when I look into it. However, it is a quiet peace of the smoky mountains park and it's a great place to visit. It's away... More
