Road trip specifically to Trousedale’s General Store with a guest. Travelled an hour after lunch. Could not stay to shop because customers are not permitted to use the washroom as per cashier. Inhospitable. I thought stores selling food/ice cream, etc. had to accommodate guests by providing washroom facilities. Left and shopped elsewhere.

This is the place I go to whenever I need a special gift, and if I'm not sure what to get, I get a gift card. The store is full of wonderful things, too numerous to mention, but all amazing.

This my go to store whenever I need a gift of any sort - the staff there always find the perfect item(s)! The coffee bar is fantastic, as are the clothes, kitchen items, foodstuffs, etc., etc. This nostalgic, beautifully decorated country store has it all!

From reading other reviews, I guess I expected more. It did have a variety of things from now and then, but it didn’t wow me.

I was staying at a cottage a week ago, on Buck Lake, and had heard about this store that's been in seven generations of Tousedales. It wasn't a far drive and the scenery along the way was beautiful anyway. The store is situated in this teeny town and looks like nothing on the outside, but once you walk in, you're greeted by its warm saleswomen and a feast for the eyes. The walls are adorned with history: black and white pictures of the storefront from decades past, old containers of cleaners and miscellaneous housewares...a history lesson contained. Once you stop gawking at the walls, you take in the very distinctive and unique merchandise: kids' toys and games, decorative housewares, old refurbished furniture, fab clothing from Prague and various designers, and confections. And if you tire of looking, or your better half is still busy moseying around, take a load off at the espresso bar for a darn good cuppa. You will be so happy you came.

Enjoyed a lovely leisurely shop at this unique store until after checkout when I was charged $36 for an item with not one but two signs advertising it at $32. Had to wait on owner to return from break in order to question. Owner unprofessional... wouldn't honour advertised price, did not apologize, could not find refund code, "you'll just have to wait", tried to make it my problem. Seemed like an underhanded way to get a sale from someone who would accept unfair advertising. Eventually successful, but surprised at the condescending service. Good ice cream.

If you are looking for an interesting spot, this store is worth the drive. We had a great time wandering around looking at everything. After we purchased some things, we had ice cream...yummy!!!

It is unique and friendly and has something for everyone.

This is an amazing place and a step back into time! Since 1836 this general store has been operating within the village of Sydenham- just a short drive north of Kingston, Ontario. If you are a mature adult walk down memory lane and find items you haven't seen for decades. Candy that is still made today but rarely found elsewhere. Crazy little games and puzzles you played with as a kid. Harmonicas, ping-pong ball guns, tin signs, Christmas decorations, and an eclectic mix of toys, souvenirs and keepsakes for all ages.

There is also a nice collection of quality clothing as well as an old fashioned snack bar. The ceiling-wall juncture is covered with old photos of the store and the village of Sydenham. Who knew that General Electric once operated a Mica Mine in Sydenham?

A must-see on a rainy day or any day!
