This a lovely local church situated on a park. I do not know, if it is worth a visit on its own, but Ocotlán has a great market on Fridays, and I recommend visiting the church when visiting thr market. It is also easy to get here: In Oaxaca, the bus company Automorsa (on Bustamante street between Burgoa and Xóchitl) will leave on market days every ten minutes and return at the same rate until early evening. You can visit the artisan shops of Santa María Croyotepec on the way back (the bus will drop you off there).

This former convent, located right next to the church of Santo Domingo, has been transformed into an amazing museum. The building itself is spectacular, with hand painted walls, high ceilings and gorgeous views from every window--of the blue sky, the mountains and the botanical garden next door. The bird’s eye view of the diverse collection of cacti, agave plants and other plantings unique to the area was beautiful--a nice surprise. We got wonderful photos of the church plaza and surrounding buildings from one of the second story windows. I could have walked around this convent, enjoying this architectural feat all day. No matter where I looked, I soaked in beauty. Because of time constraints, we had to limit ourselves to one morning to explore the many corridors and rooms with their historical contents. There was so much for me to learn. I will have to come back. I sort of wish we had visited Monte Alban before coming here, because a lot of the artifacts were from Monte Alban and I am sure I would have appreciated things even more, had I had more context. Not to be missed.
