Beautiful formation
Jun. 2021
The arch comes up pretty quickly on the path from Anarstapi, and it is an easy walk. The rock formations are very striking in this area!

Spectacular
Jul. 2021 • Couples
The vistas, cliffs, birdlife is excellent. There's opportunities for any daredevils to get the best views. We watched one section of the cliffs where every ledge had a baby chick, or 2. If you have fear of heights- forget it.

Rough and beautiful
Jul. 2020 • Family
Very nice spot to see cliff arches. A rough nature forming the cliffs. Also the Bardur Saga stone art located here is special. Another day a walk the whole way to Hellnar at the coast would be our choice

Spectacukar natural formation

It is defenetly worth your while to stop at Arnarstapi on Snæfellsnes. Among many things to do there is to look at Gatklettur which is a natural rock formation in the ocean. There is just something magical to see the waves smash at the rocks and through the holes, we could have watched it for hours! Many birds in the surrounding cliffs as well.

Wonderful place
Jun. 2019
Lovely place. A small port, rock formations and birds. The place where you can walk for a long time is beautiful. Really great place to see the cliffs and get some great pictures. Gatklettur is particularly spectacular for photographers, amateurs and professionals alike. Serene and beautiful place. Totally worth a visit.

Must in Snaefellsnes peninsula
Feb. 2020
It is a spectacular rock formation, highlighted by a natural rock arch. Free parking with an easy access from main highway. When we were there in February, it was really windy!

Nature at its best
Jan. 2020
Stopped as part of the Wonders of Snaefellsnes tour. The wind was brutal and ice cold, the ground slippery from ice and snow drifts in parts, but we made it to the viewing platforms safely. Worth the struggle as it is stunning. The powerful waves battered the basalt cliffs and roared through the stone arch. We had to shout to be heard. Great views of Stapafell and the Bardar Saga statue. Isn't nature grand?

Really stunning

It was just fantastic to see these basalt formations with a spectacular landscape. The air was super fresh but to me one of the most striking things was the silence around you, the sound of the sea and wind!
AMAZING!

another amazing stop !
Oct. 2019
We visited here with an absolutely wretched wind which was cold and violent. We were fortunate to have the sun out but it still was miserable weather conditions. Despite this we were absolutely mesmerized with the beauty which Gatklettur presented. The area was spread out over a good kilometer with various viewing platforms to view iconic nature scenes featuring volcanic hexagonal rock columns and incredible volcanic rock formations in the ocean. These scenes combined with a slowly setting sun made for sublime photo opps. And the crowds weren't too bad due to the crazy weather conditions so we tried to make the most of it. We would love to visit here again in the future with kinder conditions.
