On the way back from Mustang we stayed overnight in Marpha. The village is famous for its apple orchards, cider and apple brandy production and the nearby Tibetan refugee camp. The Buddhist monastery is situated on a hill dominating the village. The monastery can be visited for a nominal fee of 200 rupees. The monk on tour showed us around the monastery building. The most interesting is undoubtedly the monastery temple. Beautiful frescoes and Buddha figures with all the equipment could also be photographed. The monk was very polite and answered all questions with eloquence. From the monastery hill there is a wonderful view of the village and the Gandaki river valley. It is also worth paying attention to the chorten painted on the cliff wall, which is clearly visible from the monastery hill. A walk around the village is also a great pleasure.

Higher elevation at this monastery provides good panoramic view of Marpha Village. Easy to climb which took us 10-15 to reach the top. Must visit for anyone visiting Marpha village!

Located at an elevated place, serene surroundings, sacred ambience friendly atmosphere and impressive architecture. The caretaker was kind enough to open the Monastery for us and take us around. The sacred place elevated us to transcendental divinity.

It’s not going to hold you for long but from the roof are some incredible views of the mountains and roof tops and we also had a great game of football with one of the young monks so it’s worth a visit for the view point.

Visited along with a friend. We got a chance to stay in Marpha village for a few days. We went to the monastery early in the morning to experience their rituals and also to view sunrise as its at the highest level in the village. Beautiful and clean place

Even if you have 15 minutes dont miss the chance to sit quietly inside this ancient monastery. Although after hours, a young monk let us in and just to touch the wood on the floor shiny with so many feet walking over it reminded us of the ancient past. An older monk chanting in baritone overlooking the mountain with a rosary was a sight etched in my mind. The preteen monks playing marbles in the courtyard was a reminder of their tender age. What a pleasure to visit this place.
