Take advantage of the earth's heat to produce electricity, what a fantastic idea!

The museum tells the story of Larderello through short videos and texts. Explaining the brilliant idea that Delarderel had in the past: exploiting geothermal steam for the production of clean electricity. A journey to discover the potential of the earth.

Great Museum, Very Informative

We were in the area and seeing all of the geothermal power installations decided we must go and find out more about it. As a scientist I found it really interesting, but it's really for older children and adults

Interesting museum

We were here on a Sunday morning and it was extremily quiet. The museum is free and offers a good overview of the history of the region and the energy production. The landscape itself is perhaps even more impressive; the typical Tuscan landscape with everywhere pipes and big cooling towers and the smell of sulfur in the air.

We found the place by coincidence and we were really bluffed! It's free and you get a lot of information, presentations, explanations, very nice personal at the shop and in the museum offered us a bit later to go up to the hill to see steam jets - it was really amasing! For 2 € we got a detailed explanation of an older ingenieur, who gladly answered all possible Qs The ladies in museum than told us for fumarolle in Sasso Pisano and we visited also those! GREAT!!! the way tourism should be done! Congrats!

My husband is an engineer, so he was pretty into this place. The tour was self guided with videos that told of some history. He was a bit disappointed it was so much more history than design. I thought it was interesting, but got a bit dull and repetitive towards the end for me.

The museum was a bit run down and very much an old-style museum which did not bring the interesting subject to life.

A very informative museum if that's what interests you! We also went up the hill to witness the steam burst being released. So loud!

OK museum, make you watch them 'let off steam'
Aug. 2012 • Family
The museum is free, although you need to take a token from the shop. The site is significant for renewable energy fans, according to the tour guide they produce 2% of Italy's electricity here from steam they drill down to find. The museum is neat and tidy and shows some artifacts and lots of models. Captions are in Italian and English. There are also few video displays. I was hoping for more details on the current structure of the industrial site but didn't find it. For a very small fee, one can drive, behind the guides' car, up to a disused well just outside Larderello and watch the guide open the valve and release steam at 4 bar. It is so noisy you have to stand at 50m distance with ear muffs.
