Overview:
There are a few franchises of Carton King in various locations of Taichung such as a small outlet at Taichung High Speed Rail Station and at Sun Moon Lake Mall. But to truly enjoy the Carton King brand and experience, I recommend to go to the main Carton King outlet at Dakeng which has more displays of various world artefacts, animals, souvenirs, all made from cardboard. Even the restaurant tables, chairs, wine glasses, decorations are all entirely made out of cardboard.
I recommended to spend mid afternoon to night and have your dinner there as well. Closes at 9pm. Entry fee is NT$200, but the entry ticket has NT$200 worth of discount coupons. NT$100 discount coupon is to offset your purchases of souvenir products and NT$100 discount coupon is to offset your purchases of food. You can easily get souvenir products at Carton King which are sold at less than NT$100, so you can really get some souvenirs back without spending more as you can use the NT$100 discount coupon. However, the food will cost more than NT$100, but you can still use the food discount coupon to offset food purchases. The food is not exceedingly pricey.

Getting to Carton King - Dakeng
We took a taxi from Taichung Railway Station to Carton King which costs NT$300. But you can easily get there using a bus from Taichung Railway Station. Buses to and fro between Taichung Railway Station and Carton King are 1, 15, 20, 21. NT$30 one way and takes about 30 minutes.

There is an admission fee, but if you go with young kids, it worth it.
Thought the park is quite small, we spent nearly 2 hours there. Children can ride the carton train, play with different things and the slides.
You can use the tickets to redeem things too! Quite worth going!

Wonder how the chairs and rocking horse could withstand my weight. Worth visiting though it is quite out of the way. Taxi fare from Taichung railway station is TWD 300. By bus no. 1, 15, 20, 21 or 270 is TWD 30.

Basically just a park with visuals - good for photo taking. A couple of slides for the kids. Plus point is that each ticket have a 100 NT voucher that can be used to spend in the park.

This is one of the stores under the Carton King franchise in Taichung. The complex contains a restaurant, a big garden filled with greens and paper miniature edifices, a honey shop, and a shop displaying fancy paper models for sale.

While there’s a restaurant at Carton King, don’t expect anything fancy. There’s not a lot of selection for food, but the cuisine is served in boxes and cups made of paper. With the exception of the tray and eating utensils, everything else that comes with the food is made with paper.

The drinks that come with the meal are placed inside a cardboard box with a strap. You can bring the box home and remove the little sack inside (which holds the beverage) and use it as a piggy bank.

A lot of the decorations inside the diners are also made from paper and cardboard. The tree in the center of the room and the cow-shaped art work are ones I find interesting.

The small garden is a great place for a nice little walk (there were kids running around), complete with trails, man-made streams, as well as paper dogs and even a small paper lighthouse. The random water mist sprays helps relieve some of the outdoor summer heat.

Inside the honey shop, there’s honey, flower powder, vinegar, and other related stuff for sale. The paper works shop offer miniature paper models – miniatures, balls, clocks, and even fancy paper lamps. Some of the cheaper products are pretty good souvenir ideas, especially those small, colorful paper “balls” that requires some time to assemble, but comes in small and colorful packaging.

We really enjoyed this place. Amazed by all the things that can be made with paper cartons. We had a delicious and memorable steamboat dinner at the restaurant. Everything from table and chairs to our cuttleries were made by paper. Even our steamboat bowl that were boiling for an hour straight! Amazing technology. Happy we made it to this place!

The displays were pretty worn but the souvenir shops were excellent.
I negotiated with a taxi driver to take me there, wait for 2 hours and then take me TopCity Mall for 1500NTD (good value).
You don't need more tan. 2 hours.

We went to the his place around 4pm on a warm Summer's afternoon. It is not close to the downtown of Taichung and apparently by public transport it may take an hour or so. Luckily my friend had a scooter and we reached there in less than 30 minutes. Entry costs 200NT but you then get two vouchers 100NT for food and 100NT for souveniers. So essentially the entry is free. There are lots of different areas and it takes more time to get through than you think at first. The zoo was interesting as were all the large structures of the famous buildings in the central garden area. They were playing lovely music over the speakers and the whole place has a calming and romantic feel. There are lots of great things to buy in the gift shop, all kinds of carbboard model kits to take home as gifts for all ages from kids to adults. Don't miss the honey/bee area, the honey ice cream was a really welcome treat on a hot day! When you go in there is a little stamp card you get and if you can go around and collect the 6 stamps, you can take it to one of the shops and get a little free prize, that was a bonus activitiy. It was a lovely little place to visit, and a nice cheap way to send the afternoon. I would definitely take my friends or family back there again.

Entrance fees was like NT$200 (if I didn't remember wrongly) per person. In exchange, you are given two NT100 vouchers to use - one for F&B, then other for souvenirs. In all likelihood, you will need to pay extra if you choose to use the vouchers simply 'cos nothing is ever within NT$100.

Carton King is a place where everything are made of cardboards. E.g. seats, animals, places of attraction like the Eiffel tower. Yes, it's not something you see everyday, but once you see it once, you see it all. So to me, there isn't anything fantastic about this place.

Definitely give it a miss unless you have run out of places to visit.
