About
The climate of the four seasons in Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area is distinct, and each season has very diverse scenery. In spring, you will see trees growing in green abundance with new leaves. In summer, the cool weather and beautiful sea of flowers of the blooming alpine plants is very attractive. In autumn, splendid red leaves glow, while the winter brings pure, white snow. If you stay in Song-Syue Lodge, you can enjoy the gorgeous glow of the ocean of stars. Transport to this location is convenient so it is a great place to enjoy the mountain scenery of Taiwan.

Well worth the ride to view the summit . A bit of ride thou and the 3158 Cafe do provide a good cup of hot drinks. Just sitting there enjoying a Hot drink and doing nothing and 3158m above sea level is great .

Sunrise is really amazing!!! we stayed in Cingjing and was walking along when we noticed a big red bus and a man wearing a cowboy hat. He approached us & we were cautious but he showed us photos of the most amazing sunrise with clouds flowing over the mountain, we were transfixed. He drives a huge red bus and takes groups of people to catch the sunrise, every single day. He picked us up from our homestay at 4.30am, and then we discovered he has not 1 but 2 big red buses full of F&E tourists like us. He first brought us to a plot of land whilst it was still pitch black and pointed out the different stars, drove to Hehuan Mt (40min) in time to catch the sunrise, moved our whole group to a particular spot to get the best view of the sun streaming over the mountains. He did not hurry us back, let us take all the pictures we wanted, stopped at a fruit stall on the way down and we were back in our homestay at 8am. All for NT400 per person. It is a very windy drive, well worth the $. In all he is very jovial and our group was laughing most of the time at his jokes. I have his name card, but there is no website and it just states:

We hesitated in visiting the Hehuan Mountain because of the weather. We were told that there was snow days ago and driving might be a bit dangerous. However on the day we visited most of the snow on road were melted but we still got to see the fabulous now on the mountain slope. We were also lucky enough to get sunshine so that it was not that cold. The good weather also allowed us to see the famous "cloud sea" too. Wonderful!

It is a 4 hours journey from Hualien to Hehuan Shan, but along the way we visited other places too. The route that we took is not for big coaches, so you do not meet huge tour groups. Reached the height of 3158m at Hehuan Shan, temperature of 2 degress Celcius in early Dec 2012. You get nice scenery along the way up the mountain. Before we reach the top, we stopped by a shop that sells fruits and cabbages from the mountain. The pears though is expensive, bought two for NTD490, but it tastes great! Our guide bought the cabbage that cost NTD65, but he said you can get 3 of normal cabbage at NTD50 in market. However the cabbage from the mountain tastes good!

We started our ascent in the late afternoon and reached the peak just as the sun was setting. The feeling of being above the clouds and watching the sun set was truly a memorable experience! It was definitely worth the climb and braving the cold to get to there! Worth a repeat visit!

I went to Hehuan Mountain twice, first time was from hualien to cingjing which was during the day time, it was so cold but the view was really nice and it was snowing for a while while we came out of the car to take picture. the other time was i woke up to see sunrise, though that day it was too cloudy, couldnt see sunrise, but the view was still as nice , seeing those clouds forming around the mountain and the cold wind, it is just worth it to wake up at 4.30am to see these view! However, need to wear more if you visit during winter season like Jan - Feb, it was freezing cold, the average temp is around 0-3 degree Celsius..

I hired a VW T5 (9 seaters) for a day trip on 26 Feb 2015 to Hehuanshan, Cingjing farm, Mist Garden and Puli for just 2 of us – me and my wife. I did not want to use a normal car/taxi. Driver promptly picked up us at 0900 hrs from our minsu and headed onto highway to Puli. Journey was smooth flowing and traffic was light. At first, road was straight with 3 -4 lanes, then down to 2 lanes on either side and passed through several tunnels. After Puli, the road was a single lane up and single lane down. Many times, driver had to slow down at bends to allow buses from opposite direction to pass us.
We reached Cingjing at 1030 hrs for a toilet break at one of the restaurant which specialize in roasted chicken. It was quite warm and sunny at 24 degree C and I did not have to wear my winter jacket. From the dinning area of this restaurant, we could see the river which was quite dry. There was no rain for many week. After the break, driver drove onward to Hehuanshan. As we got higher up in the mountain, it felt colder in the van so we wore our winter jackets. At 1115 hrs, we arrived at a car park with viewing platform called Wuling at 3275m above sea level.
There is a bus stop for #6506 at this place. There is only 1 bus serving Cingjing & Dayuling everyday. You can go from Fengyuan to Hualien by buses within 1 day but you must stay 1 night at Lishang if going from Hualien station to Fengyuan. Below is schedule and fare.
Eastbound:
Fengyuan 0910 > Puli 1105 hrs > Cingjing 1220 > Dayuling 1250 > Lishang 1400
Eastbound:
Lishang 1500 > Dayuling 1600 > Tiensiang 1830 > Taroko station 1900 > Hualien Station 2000 hrs
Westbound:
Hualien station 0840 > Taroko Gate 0940 > Tiensiang 1010 > Dayuling 1240 > Lishang 1340 hrs. You must stay overnight at Lishang so as to catch the bus next morning at 0800 hrs in this direction.
Westbound:
Lishang 0800 > Dayuling 0900 > Cingjing 1040 > Puli 1120 > FengYuan 1320
When I opened the door of the passenger van, it was freezing cold. Driver told us that it was only 7 degrees C. He showed us the thermometer in his car. Our winter jackets were useless in this place especially with the strong wind blowing and getting into our jackets. Both of us was shivering. Since we had requested to come to this place in the heaven, we fought down the cold and went up to the viewing platform. It was a glorious view. I felt like we were on top of the world. The river flowing through the valley which we had seen on the way up was not visible because we were too high up.
In the distance, I could see cloud covered mountain peak. The sky was very clear on our side so there was no sea of cloud. There were some white patches on surrounding mountain side which the driver said was ice. It had snow recently but most had melt. The driver told us that he had brought another family here 3 days ago and it was 5 degree C. After 20 minutes of viewing and photo taking, the driver drove us down to another viewing point called Kunyang at 3070m above sea level. There was a big sign indicating that this was part of Taroko National Park. After some photo taking at this spot, we proceeded down to visit Cingjing farm reaching by 1214 hrs.

Was told by a friend to visit HeHuanShan. Reached there before sunset and got the following photos including a time lapsed night photo. You have to stay at the lodge and pre-order your dinner. Temperature was a low 6 degree C.

Hehuanshan is one the place that have high probability to snow during winter. During my visit, Hehuanshan was snowing. It was very lucky for us to come at the right time but we had a bad experience of being stuck in the very long jam on the way to hehuanshan. Few car accidents happened along the way. In the end we decided to walk up the mountain on our own :(

Can you tell me where are the stops to see Hehuashan? The main peak trail or/and the Forest Recreation area? Any other details/info that's helpful?

【Reach Hehuanshan by public bus】Firstly, there is no direct bus line to Hehuanshan; therefore, all passengers starting their trip from Taipei, Taichung, or Kaohsiung have to transfer to a public bus going to Qingjing Farm at Puli Station (operated by Nantou Bus Company); afterward, take the bus that runs between Qingjing Farm and Hehuanshan. Besides, passengers traveling on the bus from Hualien, the county on the east coast of Taiwan, the bus route ends at DaYuLing. There’s no bus running between DaYuLing and Song Syue Lodge.【Taichung – Qingjing Farm Seamless Shuttle between Taichung Gancheng Station or THSR Taichung Station and Hehuanshan】In Taichung, travelers can find the shortest path to Hehuanshan – the bus ride takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. Nantou Bus Company provides a seamless shuttle service. At Taichung Gancheng Station (near Taichung Railway Station (TRA), a 10-minute walking distance) or Exit 5 of Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) Taichung Station, travelers can claim the transit pass (a queue number) for the seamless shuttle that runs from Taichung to Qingjing Farm. By taking the seamless shuttle bus, travelers can take the same bus on the routes from Taichung to Puli and from Puli to Qingjing Farm. Passengers on the seamless shuttle bus don’t need to transfer to another bus at Puli. Once getting off at Qingjing, travelers transfer to bus 6658A going to Hehuanshan. (It’s suggested to make a reservation in advance.)【Bus 6658A is the only bus going to Hehuanshan】Bus 6658A is the only bus going to WuLing, Song Syue Lodge, and Xiao Feng Ko of Hehuanshan. Due to the limited availability of seats on the three round trips per day, online reservations or telephone reservations should be made before the date of travel. Online reservation is available earlier than 4 to 7 days before the date of travel while telephone reservation is available earlier than 1 day (before noon) to 7 days ahead.
For online reservations to Hehuanshan, the options of the pick-up point are “Bus Stop” and “QingJing Guest House,” and the options of the drop-off point are “WuLing,” “Song Syue Lodge,” and “Xiao Feng Ko.” Passengers who plan to get on/off the bus at any stops in the middle of the route can’t make an online reservation. No fee will be charged when making an online reservation, passengers pay the bus fare by EasyCard upon getting on the bus; one-way fare is NTD95. Besides, if you plan a one-day trip, you may buy a one-day pass priced NTD160 from the bus driver for unlimited trips on the day of purchase – it offers the best value. Passengers are reminded to make reservations for their return trip as well.

Hi all. I am a single traveler, on a budget. I was thinking of getting the early bus from Taichung HSR Station, make it to Cingjing Farm by 10.40am, and hopefully to hop into the CJ-Hehuanshan bus at 11am. I assume that I have to spend around 2 hours, wandering around HHS, before getting the same bus, around 3.30pm, back to CJ. And then, get the bus back to Taichung. I am wondering if this is possible. Any advice on this?
Or does anyone know any tour package from Taichung to HHS to suggest to me? I am not taking a solo private tour. I am willing to join any existing tour group.
I plan to visit CJ and Hehuanshan on March 31.
Oh ya, it does seem that I have to skip CJ Farm, due to time constraint?
Thank you for any help.

Four seasons make the natural landscapes in Hehuanshan beautiful and distinctive. Especially in winter, it becomes a popular travel destination for people who love the snowy scenery. During the other seasons, it’s the visitor’s favorite mountain to climb and hike around. Therefore, Song Syue Lodge and Skiing Hostel, the only two places offering accommodation inside Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area, are always fully booked. However, Qinjing Farm is another accommodation option for travelers who can’t book a room to stay overnight in the aforementioned two places.
【Song Syue Lodge】
It’s the highest hotel in Taiwan having economic double suites, landscape double suites, and 4-person suites. The rates from the rooms range from NTD2,900 to NTD6,800 per night including buffet breakfast and dinner. All floors and rooms are facilitated with a heating system.
【Skiing Hostel】
At a short distance away from Song Syue Lodge, it’s designed with shared rooms that are styled with the bed on the floor, a hostel for mountaineering and hikers with the bed rated at NTD1,200 per night, a cheap accommodation. The charge includes buffet breakfast and dinner at Song Syue Lodge. There is no heating system in the rooms, but electric heated blankets are available for rent from the reception.
