The enchanting Tamsui Old Street boasts the most beautiful Fisherman’s Wharf sunset of Taiwan. There are also well-complimented delectable snacks such as Ah Gei (bean curd) and fish ball, etc. On Bali left bank, there is the Ferry Old Street and Wazihwei Nature Reserve. It is relaxing and comfortable whether by strolling or cruising through on a bike. Besides the bustling business district, Tamsui is also full of an old vintage flavor. From western architectural relics to residences dating back to Japanese rule, each with their respective features and great stories to tell. If you visit Tamsui in spring, the magnificent cherry blossoms of Tianyuan Palace are a must see. If you wish for further intimacy with nature, why not camp out for the night under the starry sky. The Bali culture park camping site offers round, transparent bubble tents. Experience the close, seamless connection to surrounding nature from within for an unforgettable memory.

We timed our trip to visit Taiwan in order to catch the cherry blossoms for the year. It wasn't disappointing. We actually caught the 'full bloom' it was probably the last few days before the petals start to fall. We took a bus from tam sui mrt station. Since there was cherry blossom season. There was a bus solely chartered for the 天元宫. It doesn't have any numbers. It only states 天元宫. Only about 20mins journey.Tap your easy card both times boarding and exiting. The bus stops right outside the temple. The moment we got off its the temple. Surrounded by street hawkers. The cherry blossoms are at the sides and back of the temple. It's s slope upwards.it got really crowded.

did some research and this place was said to be one of the best places to see cherry blossoms in early march. was there on 7th March 2017 but to my disappointment, all the trees were bare except for one which still had the cherry blossoms. still a nice place to visit and i managed to get a decent shot.

directions:
take train to tamsui station, turn right once you exit the station, you will see a bus terminal. shuttle buses (NT15$) to the temple are provided during the cherry blossoms season. alternatively, you may take their public buses 866, 875, 876 or 877.

Tien Yuen Temple is located in Tamsui district about 20 minutes by express bus from Tamsui mrt station.  On arrival at Tamsui mrt station, take exit 2 and walk towards buses parked at end of mrt station.  Last 2 bays/outside Mr Brown coffee cafe are for buses to Tien Yuen Temple.  Sign on front of bus will indicated Tien Yuen Temple and cost NTD 15 per way.  Pay on arrival at temple by cash or tap with easycard. Bus will depart every 10 - 15 minutes and stop directly at carpark in front ot Tien Yuen Temple after 20 minutes.I was there on 27 March 2013 with my wife and daughter.  I managed to take a lot of photo of temple with cherry blossoms.  It is very crowded with thousands of tourists especially during Feb and March because many come for the cherry blossoms.  Outside of temple are many stalls and shops selling foods, cookies etc...

We went to Tian Yuen temple specifically to see the cherry blossoms. It was the last weekend of the trees flowering hence it was packed with people.

The nearest MRT is Danshui and there is a bus shuttle service directly to the temple- it's impossible to miss as the queues are long. There are 2 queues, the sitting queue (moves much slower since there are limited seats) and the standing queue. Although the standing queue is longer, it moves much quicker.

There are a few places to grab bubble tea, bread etc, which can come in handy while waiting. The bus ride itself takes are 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

There are a number of strategic places to take lovely photos with the pink cherry blossom trees, e.g. at the foot of the stairs to the pagoda tower and along the left of the pagoda tower as the branches do hang low enough for one to take close ups as well as pose with the flowers.

Do note however that the shuttle bus back to the MRT ends quite early, around 1800h.

I would definitely visit again, during the non-Sakura season, so as to be able to truely appreciate the peace and beauty of the temple and its surroundings without the crowds.

This was one of the highlights of our trip! Sakura was in full bloom and it just took our breath away! When we did our research, and the best time to visit would be 2nd and 3rd week of March. There were a lot of people but it was worth it!
The temple/pagoda was also very nice. The best place to take photos of the place is at the 2f of the pagoda since you can take great selfies and have sakura as your background. The lift wasn’t working but going up to the 5f will be worth the trip.
Brace yourself for the long queue at the bus stop. You have 2 options - either sitting or standing. The price is the same but the line is faster in the standing queue. During sakura season, there is a bus that would take you there and back. Make sure you have an easycard (reloadable metro card) since they don’t accept cash. Each trip is 15 NTD.

Wuji Tianyuan Temple (無極天元宮) is located in Tamsui Dist. of New Taipei City. It is a Taoist temple (道教廟寺) that emphasizes wu wei (無為, literally meaning non-action, non-doing or non-forcing). Taoism is a very popular religion alongside Buddhism in Taiwan. Wuji Tianyuan Temple is not a very old temple. Its construction started in 1972, and the basic construction was completed in just 57 days in the same year. The most eye catching five-story Wuji Jen-Yuan Tiantan (無極真元天壇) completed in 1992 is a unique structure in a Taiwanese temple. The reason it is called tiantan (天壇) might be because its outline looks like the Temple of Heaven (天壇, Altar of Heaven) in Beijing.

Wuji Tianyuan Temple became a famous destination not because of the temple but for the cherry blossoms\ season in February and March. We went there more than 6 times during the cherry blossom season. It is almost impossible to find a parking nearby during the period even on weekdays. Once we were in the site, we saw the original Wuji Tianyuan Temple. The most incredible part was following the road up to the hill where the Wuji Jen-Yuan Tiantan stands on top of the hill. We saw almost every visitor taking photos everywhere which of course included me. You can use the Tiantan as a background of the cherry blossoms scene. Most of the time we went on the left side of the Tiantan and turned left to the trail that led us to a cherry tree garden. Here we saw lot of cherry trees, and it is a good place to take photo of cherry blossoms with the Tiantan as background. Then we took the circular path around the Tiantan and tried to go inside the Tiantan. It was unfortunately not open to public that day. We will try again next cherry blossom season. It is much less crowded in other seasons, and you can come here to enjoy the peaceful environment anytime if you live in Taiwan.

The best way to visit during the cherry blossoms is taking a bus from Tamsui or MRT station. Good news is the Tamsui Light Rail (淡海輕軌) will start operating in end of 2018, which will drop you off at a station only 3.4 km (2.1 mi) from the temple. Don’t forget to go inside the Tiantan and go up to the top floor to have a excellent view of the area. You can include other attractions in the Tamsui area and enjoy a full day adventure in New Taipei City.

I recommend this place if you wanna see beautiful cherry blossoms in Taiwan instead of going to Japan. It was my first time seeing so many cherry blossoms at one time and I was very excited. There were many vendors as well, so don't worry that you would have nothing to eat. However, it was really hard to park (both cars and motorbikes) and even buses were full of tourists. Guess you'll need lots of patience during the season.

This temple located at the hill, where suitable for Sakura growth. Was here during the peak Sakura blossom time (march).

There will be buses going to this temple periodically from Dan shui MRT station, with a fee of 15 twd per way.

It was very crowded during noon and advisable to go there before 9am.

Good place to see cherry blossom and view of the city. Unexpected time for cherry blossom. We spotted wild bird in our journey. Our group of 3 children between 7 and 11 with 2 senior above 75 years old (1 of them cannot walk long and used wheelchair) went around the temple. Accessible with wheelchair. We hired a van for our trip here. We started journey at 7 am. By the time we left around 9 am, there were many tour groups. Start early!

Stalls selling fresh vegetables at reasonable price. We bought some and was told by driver that we can eat fresh directly.

Danshui MRT is a hub for bus transportation and I think the Danshui Old Street and water front areas are better in the evening, so go on a bus ride to some place. Tian Yuen is a clean and active temple with 5 floors of ornate and splendid deities. You can spend an easy hour walking around. See how good your Chinese cultural knowledge is. Can you name all what gods or on each floor and their significance? The bus ride is only about 20 mins. Enjoy I did

Ps. Early March is the best time... the temple is surrounded by Sakura cherry blossoms best to see it when they are in bloom
