Hi ! Trekking, trekking, trekking ! If you are this mad about trekking and have not been to any trek yet. Then pack your bags and go for this one. It is not very difficult one. If you are motivated, you can do it without a guide but would need a a tent and sleeping bag for a day. Like, untill triund, the first base camp, you can hire tent as there are lots of them on hire, but in season there may be shortage of them so it is always better to have your own. After triund, next place where you can pitch your tent near food availability is near snow line cafe, the last food joint. This cafe owner also rents tents, but again in season there may be shortage, so better to have your own. If you just want to have a taste of trekking, you can go upto snowline cafe, spend a night and come back. If you are more initiated, you can proceed further towards pass. The path to pass from snowline cafe is almost well laid after you cross the ilaka-goat. After that it is just walking and walking.
I would advise to reach snow line cafe on day one, stay there over night. Next day early morning start for the pass with just essentials and leaving behind everything in your tent at cafe point. You , if you are a good walker , can easily come back from the pass by 3 or 4 in the evening. Alternatively, you can take your all belongings with you to the pass and cross over and climb down on the other side. But, the other side is quite steep, so my advise for the beginners would be to touch the pass and come back via snowline cafe, triund and to Mcleod ganj. Best season would be in September, but trekking starts from May itself. If you have been thinking for a long time of doing some trek, go for it, you will really like it. If you want a guide, there is no harm in it. An expert company is always better. But can be done without too. Have a nice time. From the Pass you will get a roof top view of the Mcleod ganj and the plains. Amazing.

Me and my friends went on this trek without any guide. If you thinking of going for this trek on your own, having a sleeping bag is a must. You can get the proper route on the Google Maps and it is pretty accurate.
Basically, it's a moderate trek. Until Triund Hill, the trek is quite easy. You can rent a tent there for around Rs.1000 for 4 people. The signal coverage is very poor. You will get the signal only at a particular place only.
The next day, we crossed the Snow line cafe (The last cafe on the trek) and reached a cave. Slept there. The next day, you need to reach indrahar as early as possible, and then descend back to triund.
It was an amazing experience. A lot of fun overall.

Reaching Indrahar Pass was in my dreams since 2009 when I first trekked to Triund. But was unsuccessful on next trek to Triund in 2012 coz of Rains. This time I never even thought of doing it. It was just that I will go as far as my body would allow me to. Thank God, My wife (who allowed me to go alone) and a lots of wonderful people I met on the way who made it possible for me to reach Indrahar. Surely I am lucky to had some wonderful company of trekkers on that day who encouraged me at every step, otherwise I would have never made it.
Indrahar is wonderful destination to a tiring yet enjoyable trek. If you really want to enjoy the beauty do it in 4 days (I did it in 3 days though) It is nearly 20 kms from Mc-leod Ganj. Triund, your first night halt is about 9-10 kms. an easy to moderate trek. The last km is a bit difficult for a novice. But if you practice at home and walk 5-6 kms daily for about 15 days prior to the trek. You can do it easily. Another3-4 kms ahead lies Snowline caffe. I made this my first halt. from here it's nearly 1km downhill walk to Laka or Illaqa got a pasture. The real test for a trekkers stamina starts after this. The next stop is Lahesh Caves at a height of about 3475 mtrs, ideally this should be the 2nd night's stay as next day one would be fresh and can reach Indrahar early. I reached Lahesh Caves at about 9.30 AM after 2hours and 15 minutes trek from Snowline.
After this is again a steep trek to top sometimes the slope is nearly 60 degrees I covered this last stretch in more than 5 hours and reached Indrahar (4342mtr) at 3 pm. Not a good decision But God was on my side that day and the weather remained calm and wonderful. Not a drop of rain, no clouds and views also good. Experienced trekkers and guides suggest that one should reach Indrahar before 10-30 AM as the weather becomes cloudy after noon and the best views can be seen only early morning.
One gains more than 2and a half kms of height during this trek. Mc-Leodganj is at 1750 mtrs and Indrahaar stands at 4342mtrs. The change in scenery from Lush green to grass lands and further to a vast hill of stones is mesmerizing. The views of Chamba valley from the pass stay for a long time in your eyes. These take away all the tiredness that one experiences during the trek.

I took this trek last year in October. I have covered Triund from McLeodganj several times before, but this time I decided to go higher i.e. Indrahara Pass. The trek usually takes 4 days with itinerary as:-
Day 1: Triund
Day 2: Lahesh Cave
Day 3: Indrahara Pass and back to Laka Goat
Day 4: Mcleodganj
But we covered the entire trek in less than 3 days by clubbing the Day 1 & Day 2. The entire trek is amazing as you go to higher altitude. Don't expect any luxury, though you have a nice shack in Laka Goat which you can use for staying in case you are not comfortable staying in tents. The entire trek is easy to moderate on difficulty level, but the last hike towards the Indrahara Pass is touch and demanding. The reward is splendid, if you are planning then go for it. This is the best trek you can do in shortest time and least expenses.

We completed this trek three days back. It was fixed departure and we started on 14th June with team of Crazy Peaks. On day one, we hiked to Triund and camped overnight. Triund is no where it used to be with it now being so crowded especially on weekends. Next day it was a short hike and rest day at Ilaka Got. We got lucky to witness a successful rescue mission by out team of Kuldeep ji, Durga and Vinod. Next day we started to climb at around 6 am with Babu, Kuldeep leading and Durga and Vinod as supporting team. There was plenty of snow on the route which made it very difficult as he had to literally climb at places. But it added to the charm and challenge which all of us took very happily and scaled the top. The view on other side was as beautiful as it can get. While return, it started to rain and we even got caught in middle of an avalanche, luckily ropes, ice axe came to our rescue. :) Fourth day we returned back to McLeodganj. It was one the best experiences I've ever had!

I have never seen anything this beautiful in my life. Indrahar pass is a moderate to difficult trek starting from Dharamshala to Triund to Snowline Cafe to laka got and finally indrahar pass. The summit is at a 14000 around height and takes around 4-5 days to reach the zenith. The weather up there is too unpredictable as we received rainfall, sunlight and snowfall all at once. The temperature dropped down to minus degrees one morning and it was a scary hailstorm but yet a breathtakingly beautiful sight to witness. Plan the trip meticulously thinking about the aclamatisation as well.

The intermediary level 4day trek to Indrahar Pass was successful and highly memorable for our family, of two adult children and a (very fit) senior citizen parent.
As in most treks the guide places a crucial role. We would like to commend our guide Sohanlal for being so good!! Never spoke too much or too little. Gave good information on difficulty and time taken for distances. Was capable to taking on our backpacks when needed (at an extra charge) to speed us up. And was very well versed with the terrain and route.
The trek itself was laid out quite well. Except the last day (4) which felt like the biggest stretch, was too much for us especially after day 3 which was the biggest challenge. The camps were well organised and the arrangements were smooth. The sleeping bags were warm, very crucial. The tent equipment was new. Support staff was friendly and provided the best food possible at those extreme altitudes.
I would recommend that illaqa camp be moved further up to shorten the distance covered on day 3. However I also understand the restrains of the terrain, etc.
In the end the trek made us feel quite accomplished and was a time for family bonding

This is one trek I had an eye on for a very long time. Once there, it was absolutely worth the wait. Trek to Indrahar pass starts from McLeod Ganj and passes through Triund and Lahesh caves. This trek is one of the most scenic treks you could hope to find in an already picturesque Himachal Pradesh. The trekking and camping gear can be rented from McLeod Ganj. The trek itself is about 14 kms one way and passes through some of the most amazing and picturesque valleys. It is suitable for starters who are new to trekking.

We were 4. Planned to start at 9 am from Galludevi temple, but start at 2 pm due to our ola outstation driver(he took almost 16 hours to reach Dharamshala from Delhi). We reached Triund in 2 hours and in next hour we were in Snowline cafe. Next morning we started at 5 am and reached Indrahar pass in 4.5 hrs. It was really tough to go to top from snowline cafe and come back again in 1 day. If anyone stay at Ilaqa Goat or near lahesh cave it will be little easy. Anyway view from the top was awesome. We stay there for 1 hour and came back to snowline cafe in 5 hours. Please try to take raincoat with you as we were experienced rain without raincoat. Next day morning we came back to Galludevi temple in 3.5 hrs.
You can complete this trek without guide in 4 days as you will get arrow sign up to Indrahar and tent, food all are available (but costly). But if you want to complete the trek in 3 days like us then you should take guide. For cheap offer you can directly contact our guide Mahinder 9736524853/8219752840. He is young, very energetic and knowledgeable.

One should definitely take out time to experience this trek, its a 4 day journey with moderate to difficult stretches. Ideally the best time to do this trek would be on weekdays, when the route is generally less crowded and one can get plenty of time to be on your own. It is also a good idea to hire a local guide for first timers and get bookings beforehand. There are also food supplies available at Triund & Snowline cafe. The stars at night and the moonrise are a treat to watch sitting by the bonfires which are arranged at camps.
Must haves are very good shoes since the climb is quite steep, and adequate gear to protect oneself from chilly winds and cold at night. If you are not carrying a water bottle, local shops enroute Triund also sell small pouches to carry plastic bottles. Also carrying Trekking Stick or just a wooden stick is quite helpful for trek.
Personally would recommend IBEX Adventures, which is located right at Mcleod main circle, the owner was very helpful and accommodating.

Hi, can i go by car to indrahar pass? Or how far can we go there by car?
Written October 10, 2018
You may get a four wheeler till the base of Triund, The first camp on the way to Indraharpass.
However I would recommend walking from McLeodgunj, if you are planning to go till Indrahar, walking a few more kilometres will not make a big difference.
Written October 11, 2018
Yes, you could.
As a frequent hiker, I saw and expected a well worn trail till Triund (base 1). Same applies for Illaqa (base 2) However to travel without a guide till the top is not recommended. They know the terrain and dicy spots.

we are planning to trek to indrahar pass. so, can we take tents and sleeping bags from snowline cafe? and where it would be advisable to set up our tent before indrahar pass. we are going in the month of june
Written May 26, 2017
I missed the other part of your question. last you can tent is laka region which is quite far from Indrahar and its very cold . there is a last shop close to laka who also offer tented accommodation. but shop near laka provides v basic food options and water you need to source from ice stream. choice is yours. and mind it it rains every day there and hailstorm is common too :) do let me know if you still have query.

How is the situation for facilities like washrooms etc. during the trek?
Written May 25, 2015
no wash room . you need to use nature around.at Triund you may find some but not anywhere else.
same for water. bottled water only available at triund and snowline cafe . beyond snowline cafe you need to drink from melting ice stream if you are not carrying your own
