Yungkang Street is one of Taipei's best known for its food. Yungkang Street has been around for a long time, as long as I have been in Taipei. The variety of restaurants is marvelous, and the bill won't break the bank. It's great for dumplings. Yungkang Street is one of Taipei's most famous food streets.

Yongkang Street has been voted one of the coolest streets in the world. It's full of bubble tea kiosks, beef noodle restaurants, shaved ice shops and restaurants like the renowned Din Tai Fung, famous for its dumplings. You can wander along Yongkang Street for hours and explore the surrounding lanes. By the way, it's easy to access from the Dongmen MRT station. I first visited Yongkang St many years ago, it's become a lot more exciting since.

Spent nearly two hours here walking along the street lined with retail stores, bubble tea kiosks, and restaurants. Nothing much to see except those. There was a small park where you can rest for a bit. If you need a wee, there are clean toilets in the park. What else to see, the remains of a prison wall which is just that... a wall. I opted to stand in line for a bowl of beef noodle in Yongkang beef noodle joint. It was average.

This neighborhood is very convenient for diners who enjoys shopping. Good restaurants like ding tai feng (For their xiao long bao), Du Xiao Yue (For Shanghai food) as well as popular ice smoothie places that sells local steamed meat buns, ice smoothies and bubble ice teas are all in this area. Nice place to spend an evening...

Lots of food. Great lil boutiques. Famous for beef noodles and mango dessert. The first Din Tai Fung is here; with its long queue all the time, serving its famous soup dumplings @ siew loong bao.

The street is about 8-10 mins Walk from dongmen station (red line). Most people are there to probably get a better feel of the lifestyle of the locals but certainly for food options.

Personally, nothing very much to shop except for food. Lots of choices but the prices don’t come cheap. Ranging from snacks to proper meals. Some are local food stalls while some could be franchise outlets.

I would say the crowd there are mostly tourists who have heard and therefore curious to experience the hype there.

The food I particularly like there are yong Kang beef noodles and the mango ice shaving desserts. Both in the price range of about usd$7-10 for a serving. If you want to pamper yourself to a simple treat of this price range in a non restaurant setting, please do.

The authentic Yongkang beef noodles is good because of the rich broth and the tender beef slices that melt in your mouth. Had tasted something similar from hua lien for 1/2 it’s price.

The mango ice-shavings comes with generous toppings. The ice shavings are smooth and of powdery texture. Much like Korean bingsu to me.

I also tried the local pancakes there. There’s always a queue and you won’t miss it. I had both original and one with ham. The taste is not very far from roti prata if you know what it is. Crispy and fluffy but also oily.

For ding Tai Fung lovers, there’s an outlet there. But you will need to queue really Long in the open for it. Do some risk assessment before you embark on this food venture.

There’s also a shop that claimed no 1 tomato beef noodles there. Misled by the info and the crowd there. It was a total disaster for me. The staff were cold and rude. Some signs of impatience if you take too Long to decide what to order. Unfortunately the poor staff service wasnt compensated by the taste of the noodles. The broth was bland; probably just plain water with some salt and a little flavour from the beef and tomato. Not a lot of toppings or ingredients in that bowl of noodles. The beef cubes were abit tough and required some amount of chewing. Will not recommend anyone with dentures to try this. As the food was such a let down, I just took a few bites.

As a tourist, there’s no harm going to yong Kang street to experience that hustle and bustle of people jostling one another. As my hotel sits very closely to dongmen station, it is pretty convenient for me to get there. If my accommodation had not been there, I wont take the extra effort to go there.

I was raised in Taipei county and moved to the US 20 years ago. This was my first time being here after hearing so many things about the food on this street. The nice thing about this place is that they offer a variety of food from different regions in Taiwan (Yilan, Tainan etc) so that a tourist can sample a number of different kind of food here. However, for someone who lives here, I don't really see the appeal as you can get the same food from various night market.
The nice touch about this street is the souvenir stores. Here you can find cool little souvenirs to buy and give out as tokens of appreciation.

He told me that it was quite a famous place in the old days for good food.. but having arrived there
I was somewhat disappointed ..
and certainly was not going to join so many people at one place eating their mango dessert.. wandering
was more my cup of tea ... if one looks up above the many modern signages the average tourist will miss the whole purpose of visiting this place ... see my images and u can understand what I see that others cannot see
