Birds of Eden is part of the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA). Birds of Eden is the largest single-dome free flight aviary in the world, spanning 2.3 hectares of natural forests, streams and dams. With over a kilometre of walkways, visitors can experience the thrill of spotting almost 3500 previously captive birds of over 200 different species flying free and living natural lives. The scenery alone warrants a visit with hundreds of different plant and tree species plus there are giant fruit bats, golden-handed tamarins and the smallest of the antelopes, Blue duikers. Visits to Birds of Eden are self-guided and you are free to wander for as long as you wish at your own pace. Guided tours for group bookings can also be arranged on request at no additional cost.

Our family really enjoyed our time touring the birds of eden. We saw all sorts of birds and heard wonderful calls. Take it slow , walk quietly and you will see and hear great things!

We planned our trip to include a visit to Birds of Eden. My family was more impressed than me. For me it was a bit pricey, but it is certainly worth a visit.

Really lovely visit, very knowledgeable staff - also a coffee shop with great carrot cake. The birds were all so beautiful, diverse and even friendly - one parrot came and hopped on our shoulders!

Our second visit to Birds of Eden. Personally I detest having to see animals in cages, but this is a sure winner amongst the little ones. Pity about all the rescued "house" parrots sitting around saying "hello" to passers-by.

Great place to visit! Kids loved spotting birds and duiker in the indigenous setting. Can be a little nippy in the winter so bring a puffer jacket just in case.
