Wat Thaton is more than worth a visit. Located high above the village / area and here you also have a beautiful view. Temple itself is also more than worth a visit. It is actually also a place where instruction on Buddhism is also given. It is also a very quiet and peaceful location; virtually no tourists.

As recommended by our driver Ping, we paid a visit there. It was almost an hour's drive from Singha Park. When we got there, we hurriedly walked up the pagoda as it was already late in the afternoon. It was a huge pagoda where it housed many god idols for worship from many south east Asia countries. Paintings and Chinese caligraphies were being hanged on wall of the stairways that led to the top. I thought it was more museum than a pagoda. If not for the tight schedule of the day, we could spend a whole afternoon here. There was also nice view when looked down from the pagoda. We had panorama view of the Kok river, paddies and village..... How about watching sunrise or sunset there...... yes, next time....

We walked up the hill to this wat, but if you aren't up to the walk you can get a songthaew to take you up. You can organise through your hotel if you like.
We went up early in the morning to take advantage of early morning light for photos, but it was foggy when we reached the top, although this didn't last for long.
The crystal pagoda at the top is the the Tardis, bigger on the inside. There are three floors of wonderful displays inside. Old, new and everything in between. The Chinese paintings on porcelain are amazing. There is a really wide range of artifacts. You will definitely not be bored. We stopped at the way points on the way up, but it was the pagoda that really stole the show. Do not miss. Liked the outside, loved what was inside.

Hi folks it’s Johno from the lifestyle strategist. I come up here regularly to take photos either at sunrise or sunset and I have accumulated many fantastic photos of the area valleys the mountains and of the temple itself. The temple is a magnificent building the colours the architecture design very very unique. Do not miss a visit here if you are passing through. Wat Thaton is a peculiar temple, as it is composed of several structures on multiple levels. The best ones are level 8 (best temple) and 9 (best views on the valley, the river and the mountains at the border with Myanmar).
I visited them all, walking from Thaton bridge up to the farthesth 9th level.
It is a long, steep and tough walk, but if you have time it is definitely worth it.
Not a typical tourust place, it is really peaceful.

Large temple with 9 levels offer good hike 3-4km - there and back. Especially number 9 level is bit far away - overlooking river valley. There is secret path way behind main building which is concrete elevated pavement which zig zag through forest to boat like lookout point.

When we saw the kuan yin and a few other statutes at the bottom of the hill and glimpsed the pagoda from the bottom, we thought it may be just another typical Thai temple.
As it is the top attraction in the tiny Thaton (we actually like this tranquil riverside town) we still gave it a go.
We walked up from the bottom to see each level. It's not particularly difficult and people can rest at each level as there are some statutes to view at each level.
The statutes along the way are quite ordinary but the views are not bad. The real treat is the top level (approx. 30 mins non stop walk). The views are very expansive and the sunset is beautiful.
The style of the pagoda is quite unusal that it has a Middle Eastern feel. It has a few levels inside and houses quite a lot of better statutes. We like the collection of Buddha statutes from different countries as they vary in postures, facial features and customs. The outdoor platform at the top level is the perfect place to view sunset. We guess we can view sunrise too but it will probably quite cold and we don't know what time does the pagoda open in the morning.

We took on the challenge of "hiking" up. On a hot day we took our time and took a few hours (we are in our 60's) The 270' views were magnificant

It's a hot walk uphill, about 3 km to the top, but you are rewarded with great views!
Luckily you can buy cold drinks near the chedi, so no need to carry any extra weight...

i dont know what happened, been here now the third time and this time i was very disappointed. still the view from the white buddha is great but the whole temple complex seems ruined and broken with garbage all over the place. Never saw such a tore down buddhist place in thailand
