I visited around 9am during Golden Week.
A few groups of people had come, but not so many that I was able to stroll around the beach in peace.
The beautiful pure white sand and crystal clear water were very pretty.
As for star sand...it seems it's not easy to find beautiful star-shaped sand.
I had to press my hand against the rocks on the shore and patiently search through the grains of sand until I found just one.
There was an unmanned shop selling star sand for 300 yen a bottle.
You can also pay with PayPay.
I came all the way there and bought some.
Even among all the sand, there was very little beautiful star-shaped sand.
I haven't written many good things about it, but there's no doubt that it was a lovely beach full of tropical atmosphere.

It takes about 15 minutes on foot from Kondoi beach to the beach. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the village directly.
It is also an emerald green beach, but this is one of the best Instagram spots in Okinawa, with various swings set up in the trees along the beach. Depending on the angle, you can take a photo of the swing jumping out to sea. You can also collect star-shaped sand, which is perfect as a souvenir.
I encountered a cat on the way. They were very friendly, so maybe they were the cats of the townspeople.

This is the famous beach with the star-shaped sand. They are really tiny and it takes good eyesight and fine motor dexterity of the fingers to pick up. But there are plenty of them. Fun to try to search for them. We took pictures of the stars and returned all that we found, then walked over to Kondoi beach.
About 2.6km, 20-30 mins walk from the pier. Ferries to Taketomi depart Ishigaki every 30-60 mins except during lunch hour. Note that the last morning ferry is at 11.30am and the next one is at 1pm. Very enjoyable in good weather.

Beautiful beach with great views of Iriomte and Kohama islands. Water is clear and appears blue with the white sand. Not the greatest for swimming or snorkeling as there are not a lot of coral or fish to see and alot of small rocks which makes it hard to walk into the water. The main reason to come though is to look for the star shaped sand. You need to look closely but they are plenty of them there! If you want to take some as souvenir their is a small shop on the beach that sells glass vials full of them for 300 yen.

Many articles mention about the star shaped sand but I failed to check that it is a rocky beach. About 15min walk from the main town, it was abit out of the way but you will be able to find star-shaped sand in small quantities in the sand. Nice place but it's rocky nature and short shoreline does not allow you to enjoy the beach comfortably like kondoi beach. Probably worth a visit!

As mentioned by all the other contributors, this beach is not good for swimming or even sunbathing. It's main feature is to have small star shaped sand particles mixed with normal sand. If you like treasure hunting or you have kids it's a good place to go to, but be warned that there will be many others searching for the stars and gathering a sufficient amount of those may take quite some time.

A short walk from kondoi-hama. There is a small shop selling bottled star sand at a price. Please do not take pictures of the locals there without permission. It is a fun activity to look for sand. At first, I was sifting through handful of sand. However, upon listening in on a japanese tour group, pressing your palm onto the sand its easier to get those small star sand particles to stick to it and results in a larger yield. There are benches there for you to sit down and have a mini picnic.

This is an ok beach. Not too crowded. But you can’t really swim here. It’s known for star-shaped sand. I didn’t find any but I didn’t look very hard. There are several swing sets around and a vendor selling trinkets. Cool for a photo but don’t plan on spending the whole day.

This beach is famous for star shaped sand. Hordes of tourists spent time digging hard for souvenirs in the sand. Wonder how long they can allow tourists to keep doing this without hurting the ecology.
