Kangaroo Bluff, originally settled in the 1820s, was the point where people and goods were ferried across the river -- and in 1975-6 ferries again operated after the collapse of the Tasman Bridge. The name Bellerive was adopted in the 1930s. Many fine buildings survive in Bellerive, one of the oldest being the Police Station and Watch House, circa 1842 (now the Community Arts Centre). Queen Street, originally named Bidasso Street, is lined with fine examples of colonial architecture.

Interesting place

Great place to visit just for a stroll or a relaxing few hours. Have lunch or just a coffee in one of several inviting places or just watch the yachts bobbing in the harbour

Bellerive is a great little area - nice and quiet and only 10 mins from central Hobart. We liked staying here and better deals with Air BnB here than central Hobart. The "village" itself is a group of restaurants, pub, shops on the waterside. Some good options there - but we usually went into central Hobart for better meals. Very... More

Bellerive village and surrounds are a very pretty area. It has grown over the years but is still small which is nice. Plenty of great places to eat in or take away, stroll along the walk ways at the marina and quality homes surround along with a short stroll to Blundstone Oval.

I've visited Hobart dozens and dozens of times and have even been to the Bellerive Oval to watch cricket. But I'd never realised just how pretty the village of Bellerive was until I made my first foray here to get some takeaway. It helped that it was a beautiful summer evening and walking around the marina area was just delightful.... More

Bellerive Village sits between the Bellerive Yacht marina, Kangaroo Bay often with freely swimming dolphins, and Blundstone Arena where cricket and football are two of the uses. Historical houses and monuments are nearby, as are a range of cafes and restaurants. Tranquil. Pretty. From some viewpoints the glorious Derwent River and it harbour, and Mount Wellington add beauty.

We have enyoyed meals in this lovely old hotel on Bellerive Quay, with stunning views of the marina many times. This time we were disappointed with the experience. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable however the food was not up to usual standards. I ordered the baked salmon. Presentation was average and my salmon was not cooked properly. My... More

A wander around the marina and Bellerive village is a delightful way to spend an hour or so - plenty of cafes to call into for a coffee or a light lunch. The views across the Derwent River to Hobart nestled below Mt Wellington is beautiful.

A variety of restaurants multiple cuisines. Enjoy a stroll around the boardwalk and the marina. A very pleasant village atmosphere, no hustle and bustle and only 10 minutes from the CBD.

Bellerive is a lovely waterside suburb centred around Kangaroo Bay and the eastern shore of the Derwent. How much longer it will remain like it is is hard to tell with plans for development under way, a big new apartment block going up in Cambridge Road and talk of a ferry terminal too.
