The area
Neighbourhood: Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.

Awesome Night Life and Many activities!!
A decently large block of small business areas are blocked off with many bars, arcade and night life areas that I highly recommend visiting at least once during your time there. It’s right off the Shinjuku station so it’s easily accessible. Keep in mind that the station closed at 12 so many people will leave by then. If you want to explore Tokoyo nigh life and local food I highly recommend coming here!!

Colorful, lively & great place to visit.....very safe indeed
During our research, we read in some blogs to avoid staying or coming to this red light district as unsafe, esp at night. Frankly, after coming both in day & night, we confirm this place is as safe as any other areas in Shinjuku. This place is crowded/packed with tourists & locals both day & night. Just like anywhere in Shinjuku. Never once do we felt unsafe or threatened. Yes there were obvious bars & red lights activities going on but they don't harass or bug you. It's a colorful, bright & nice place to visit or eat. Here u can see the famous Godzilla head at top of Hotel Gracery. Of course common sense must prevail in any circumstances. Don't stay till early morning hours where most crowds are gone if u r just here for shopping/ eating.

    Busy but fun!
This is such a fun and colorful area. Lots of people, shopping, and food. Lots of small bars off the beaten path, which felt kind of seedy. Glad I got to see but also happy not to stop in one.

    Worth the visit!
This place has great food at very affordable prices: a bowl of delicious ramen+ fried rice and delicious vegetarian goyzas for AUD 15. We visited between 6- 10 pm, it was really busy with people of all ages, including families with young children. However, I can tell the place gets its “Red-light” district vibe after 10:30 pm.

It is one of the amazing place must visit , if you are visit Tokyo in Shinjuku district and so easy get to to , under ground in the area like a spider webs , asphalt jungle like any Red light District , mountain of people locals or tourist , but in Kabukicho I am so surprised there is so many kids and family in the area to see movie and enjoying dinning out , yes ! crime do happened all the time , but still very safe environment day and night , so many great restaurants , clubs , bars gift shop in every block , just keep your eye open like any Country , beautiful district will last your life time . best time to visit is 12 noon till 10om , after at midnight it is totally different Kabukicho !

First thing, all the restaurants allow smoking inside which may be a deal breaker for you. There is a vast amount to look at / do here. Sit in a bar and people watch or walk the streets at night.

This is my second trip to Japan. The area is fun and lively but can also be seedy late night especially as a solo female traveller. It kind of depends on where in the area you are. Yes, go for sure to see it. Neon lights, bars, food and music but try and go with others. Be mindful that some places can target tourists for cash and there are the odd drunks about late at night. During the day and early evening, fine and busy. It isn't unsafe, just a 'sleazy' side of Tokyo that you don't expect to see! Definitely experience it. If your a solo traveller like me, stick to the busy, outside areas and go earlier rather than later. I had some men going on at me but it wasn't scary and there were other people around.
