This is an easy hike around an most unusual rock formation in Arches National Park. It right off the main park road and readily accessible. If the more challenging hikes in the park are are beyond your ability, this is an attractive option to stretch you legs a bit and enjoy what nature has provided.

This is a short easy walk around a rock precariously balanced on top of a pillar . It's an incredible sight and fills you with wonder . The walk will not take long and is best done en route to some of the harder longer walks

I always wonder how it can stand still - it looks like the top rock will fall with next wind blow. The trail is quite short from parking, so everybody can handle it I think.

Balanced Rock is located right beside the Arches Scenic Drive, so if you are driving through the park to The Windows or Delicate Arch then you can't miss it - you will drive past it. It's located 9.7 miles from the park entrance at the junction of Arches Scenic Drive and The Windows Road. There is a parking area and... More

At just 0.5 mile loop this is a really short easy walk. The balanced rock on a pillar is the highlight but with the most incredible views of the La Sal mountains behind. Fantastic!

Standing below the balanced rock makes one realize the power of nature. The size of three school buses, Balanced Rock appears to be precariously perched on its pedestal. The red sandstone landform has eroded over millions of years. Next to Balanced Rock is a smaller balanced rock called “Chip Off the Old Block.”

It is the type of thing that makes my brain do a double take, can that really be there? It is, for now at least. Easy trail with good view from the road. Worth getting out of the car if there's a parking spot as it is right on the main road.

I say this because I went as a kid in the 70's and saw the similar but smaller formation next to it called "chip off the old block". That formation fell in the winter of 1975/76. So, Balanced Rock may last for a million more years, but then again, the one next to it fell in my lifetime. This is... More

My wife and I hiked the short trail around balanced rock while in Arches the first week in October 2016 as the first stop on our five-park tour of Utah’s national parks. While Balanced Rock is impressive and very famous, it really is just a rock on top of a spire. One can find many rocks precariously held in place... More

You can clearly see it from the road. Pretty cool to look at and photogenic. Parking is pretty easy and high turnover.
