I took the Castle/Medicine Loop trail. As most folks say it's not like you are going right in the middle of all the huge formations but I really wasn't into all the rock climbing. This hike is flat. I'm not a professional hiker. I was...More

The title should be obvious. Why wouldn't you bring your map on the trails? Because you could be a forgetful idiot like myself or my husband. My husband and I opted to hike the Castle Trail and Medicine Root Trail. We parked the car at...More

We thoroughly enjoyed hiking on the Castle/Medicine Loop trails. There were many incredible views and formations along the way. The trail is easy and flat even though it is quite long. You will want to be sure to carry water with you. We started the...More

We missed the start of the trail but another hiker helped us out. Be sure to bring water. Great formations along the way.

This trail is flat and easy to hike along. It's quite long, we only hiked half (from the insanely steep Saddle Pass to the Western trailhead) but it was most enjoyable. Wear *really* good shoes.

We took to the Castle Trail because it's 10.1 Mike's and the others were much shorter. I expected the trail to take us through the Badlands (the scenic part) but there was a lot more prairie and flat land. You do get into some of...More

OK we hiked Castle Trail and Medicine Root Loop instead of the whole Castle Trail. The area we hiked was flat and kind of boring. Some nice views but it was 96 degrees with absolutely no shade. Being a lot of water with you.

The Castle Trail is the longest trail in Badlands National Park at about 6 miles in one direction. Recently, we took the trailhead at the Fossil Exhibit Trail and went to the view where it meets the Saddle Pass Trail. This route was about 2...More
