The very short trail to this overlook is out the back of the visitor center and to the left, and is one of only two that can be reached by car throughout the year (the other is Tomichi Point along South Rim Road just before the visitor center). The trail leads one out to an exposed point on the rim... More

This is a great spot to look deep inside the Black Canyon. Take your time to absorb the amazing scenes in front of you. Very cool destination, but hang on to your kids!

This is the awesome view that's accessible from the Black Canyon of the Gunnison visitor's center. Just go out the back door and follow the stone stairs. The viewing platform is set right on the edge of the cliff that plunges straight down to the bottom on the canyon, with views of the Gunnison River. I can get weirded out... More

This is one of the premier views of the canyon and is accessible form the rear of the Visitor Center. A set of stone stairs takes you down to a precipice hanging straight over the Gunnison so far below. Takes your breath away if you have any shyness for heights.

Gunnison Point is more open, the rocks are as steep but sort of less jagged, more sheer walls. It's not to be missed if you're in Black Canyon. As I've reviewed for Tomichi Point and Black Canyon previously: this is a great destination if you have less time or smaller kids and don't want to delve into the Grand Canyon... More

I stopped here as part of my cross country road trip, it was fantastic. I took beautiful pictures and it was a really nice day. I did not hike much of the trails because they are "rough" and I was not prepared to do a lot of hiking in the middle of summer. It would be a pretty awesome place... More

Extremely challenging hiking and not recommended for the average hiker. No established trail and lots of loose rock and boulders. Wear a helmet and protective gear. Not good for large groups as it is so steep that boulders often don't stop. Check with the park ranger.... I love hiking but this one has hazards beyond your control, especially with multiple...
