Make sure you have plenty fuel in tank. Beautiful drive. South part of Canyonlands is very different than Island in the Sky on the north end. Visit both if you have time. The red rock formations are awe-inspiring.Nice visitor center. We lodged in Monticello.

We visited the Needles section of Canyonlands National Park before we went to the Island in the Sky section up north near Moab. We had stayed the night in Monticello and checked out of the hotel around 9 am. It took about an hour to...More

If you have the time in your itinerary to do this section of Canyonlands, it is worth it. We had a great day here, following the guide and checking out many of its suggested walks and viewpoints. The old cowboy cave / spring trail was...More

The Needles district was on my bucket list for a long time. It definitely is remote, and is best explored, not visited. Don’t expect an easy trek to see dramatic sites. Here, you will have to work for them. We got the last pass for...More

The drive to get to the Needles is long and I didn't realise that the Island and the Needles were separate. To get from the Needles to the Island you have to drive all the way out of the park, around the outside and back...More

We didn't actually get here. I had done a lot of research and didn't realise that Needles and Islands in the Sky were basically in different directions around 2 hours drive away from each other involving having to drive back into Moab. We spent the...More

It's a long drive to get to the Needles section of Canyonlands National Park. There are a few nice viewpoints, but I was left with the impression that long hikes are the only way to really see things.

Canyonlands is the most isolated but is Utah’s largest National Park. It is the least visited park. In the park is the meeting of Colorado and Green rivers. We visited this part of the park first, coming up from Monticello, which was a half hour...More

Getting to this section of Canyon Lands can take up a lot of your time. We stayed in Moab and it takes at least an hour and a half to get there. Trials here are either easy or very strenuous. Ended up doing 2 small...More

Hmmm... I was totally amazed by my experiences in Needles District. It was (as my Daughter promised) the most beautiful place I ever backpacked. I guess my review did not adequately express the quality of the experience... More
