This part of Canyonlands National Park is located about 75 miles from Moab, and it takes about 1.5 hours to get here. It takes its name from the area’s distinctive sandstone spires. We enjoyed two trails in this area of the park. Both are about...More

The Needles Canyonlands is one of our unmissable highlights of a great trip around Southern Utah. Unlike the very disappointing Arches it is: a. Majestic and beautiful. b. Unspoilt in absolutely every way by humanity and tourism (we saw about a dozen people the whole...More

We visited the Needles section for the first time in our recent trip to the Moab, UT area this past mid-September and were not disappointed. We hiked the entire Chesler Park Loop (11 mi. RT) from 7am-12:15pm and only saw about 15 people all day....More

The drive off of US Route 191 to the south rim of the park is beautiful. There are places along the way to stop and hike or take photos. The visitor’s center staff is very helpful. However at 2:00 pm they warned not to be...More

We were excited to see the visitor center was open and the rangers were very helpful. We were about to leave but found out that the sunset is usually very good, so we stayed an extra 45 minutes to witness an average sunset - you...More

But the Slickrock trail in The Needles was worth the 40 mile side trip which we did while traveling north to Moab. Indian Creek is just before The Needles, and is one of the premier destinations for rock climbers featuring mainly sandstone crack climbing in...More

Chesler Park Trail was a highlight of Needles. If we had more time, we would have done a longer hike but this six mile hike had great scenery, a chance to experience a slot canyon, great views...couldn't have asked for more.
