Excellent back country option along the White Rim Trail
Jul. 2017 • Family
We elected to stay here during our 2 day drive of the White Rim Trail at the recommendation of the ranger I spoke with on the phone. It offered a view of both the sunset in the evening as well as the sunrise in the morning. It really would be hard to find a bad place to stay any where along the route but this was perfect for us as it was about 1/2 way through the trail and offered stunning views and privacy (which isn't too hard to find in the summer).

White Crack is at the southernmost point of the White Rim Road
Jun. 2017
The turn to the White Crack campsite is half way around the 100 mile White Rim Road. It’s only a 1.4 mile detour to get to the campsite but it is absolutely spectacular and more than worth the inconvenience of travelling the extra miles to get to it.

White Crack has vistas looking in all directions; looking south from White Crack Point you have beautiful views of the Needles District, and looking to the west there are equally beautiful vistas of the Maze District. If you turn around and look north, you’ll have picturesque views of Junction Butte and Grand View Point in the Island in the Sky. And if you catch just the right late afternoon or early morning light, the views make for absolutely astounding photographs.

The White Crack campsite, like most of the White Rim campsites, is very flat and has essentially no trees or even large bushes for shade, and since I visited it in June, the heat was a serious issue (105 degrees in the shade and there wasn’t any shade). None the less, the campsite was well worth its inconveniences of being off the White Rim Road, its lack of shade and what seemed like unbelievably excessive heat.

White Crack is also a difficult campsite to schedule a reservation for since there is only 1 group campsite at the location. Most of the other campsites (Airport, Gooseberry, Murphy, Potato Bottom and Hardscrabble) all have multiple group campsites, but White Crack has only one group campsite. Therefore, the next time I travel on the White Rim I’m going to plan my entire trip around the availability of the campsite at White Crack.

Remote in a good way

This place is awe inspiring. You will be alone. Bring binoculars, sometimes you can see mountain sheep. There's chert knappings on the ground from making arrowheads. If you hike into the canyon you will see chert deposits. This is such a beautiful place. Be sure to watch the sunset.

Solitude and spectacular sunrise and night photography
Jul. 2015 • Friends
It took 8 hard driving hours in a jeep to reach the White Crack camp but boy was it worth it. Amazing sunsets and sunrise and we were there all by ourselves. Bring everything you need with you as all there is in the camp is a toilet. The night photography was wonderful and the peace and quiet were incomparable.

Solitude and spectacular vistas

Awe inspiring vistas with solitude to contemplate them. White crack is so remote you need to come prepared for communing with nature. The morning sunrise was awesome. The evening light was mesmerizing. For a landscape photographer this is heaven.

Peace and quiet!

Stayed one night at White Crack June 2015. Views from around the campsite are absolutely stunning, and the best part is you can enjoy the views all by yourself without anyone disturbing you!

Spectacular campsite
Aug. 2014
The combination of traveling the White Rim Trail to get there and the White Crack campsite itself is worth every minute. The rangers at the Island in the Sky visitors center were flexible with the large party we had traveling there. They said it was a three vehicle maximum site and we had a truck and six motorcycles and they allowed it. It is one of the most incredible places (along with Tuweep Point & Muley Point) to spend the night. You will not regret the effort to get there.

If you want total isolation this is the place to find it
Sep. 2013 • Couples
Have camped on this campsite 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years it is a fantastic spot, i always wondered why i was was the only party at this site, as it turns out this is a one vehicle site so that explains a lot.
It is 3 mile south of the white rim trail/road and is roughly at the half way point easily reachable in 6 hours from the trailhead in a stock 4x4 the en-route and at the camsite are spectacular. As night falls and the stars come up well with no light polution the milky way is totally visible in all it's splendor.
You really do get a feeling off being on your own, just brilliant
