The hike in itself is not difficult. We did this hike in the summer, in the afternoon, after doing Choab Canyon trail in the morning. It was probably not a good idea, as we were already tired, and it was 39°c. So the hike was not very agreable for us. When arriving at the arch, I so nearly collapsing with... More

A fairly easy walk out for some fantastic canyon views, especially in the later afternoon light. Be careful to watch for the cairns to help guide you and be sure to bring a flashlight if you want to stay to sunset. It’s a short but steady ascent (not very steep) to the top of a wide area; without any railings,... More

Short easy hike to a popular destination within the park. Good for families with kids. Can get crowded at times, so go early.

In February Capitol Reef National Park is nearly deserted. The weather was perfect for hiking and the clear blue sky a wonderful contrast to the yellows, pinks, and reds of the rock all around us. The HIckman Bridge trail follows Sulphur Creek for a short distance before ascending a few switchbacks through a sage meadow, then descends into the cool... More

This is a great hike! Amazing views. If you get a chance, go down to the right, by the water, and look up! Very scenic!

This arch rivals those in nearby Arches National Park. We only passed a few other people on the trail, and greatly enjoyed sitting beneath the arch and resting and taking in the beauty. Would highly recommend this to anyone in the area.

An at the beginning middle streniuos uphill hike will lead you to the very impressive Hickman Bridge. It's one of the best hikes in the Capitol Reef National Park and if you have 1 - 2 hours to spare - do it!! It's a great photographing/filming location. If you travel with a car you have to be early at the... More

The Hickman Bridge Trail is a nice two mile hike, but I wouldn't call it a "must do". I've been to a large number of national parks and this trail is a bit on the ordinary side. It does take you to a nice view of the Hickman bridge, but other than that it isn't anything special. I guess I'll... More

There's a modest parking lot that starts as the trailhead for this trail east of the Visitor Center on Route 24. There are a few pit toilets here as well. The trail itself is for the most part an out-and-back trail, with a loop around the bridge area. From the parking lot to the bridge is approximately one mile. The... More

You start this lovely walk along a gushing river, with the Capitol Dome in the distance. A moderate walk of a couple of miles, you wind up through fields of black volcanic rock. The trail is well maintained and easy to hike. When you get to the arch that is Hickman's bridge, you can walk under and around it to... More
