Very nice little stone cabin in great location - hard to imagine a family with 13 children living there! Worth stopping by it to see the construction techniques and to try to envision the family living there.......

This little stone cabin is best photographed at sunrise when the light is best ad there is no traffic on Rt 24. Amazingly the Behunins were one of the first settlers in the valley and raised 11 children here.

We actually drove by this coming from the east and realized what a beautiful picture it would make with the gorgeous surrounding rock . So we turned around and it made for an interesting short history legend. I can't imagine what life was like for...More

Behunin Cabin is right off the road along highway 24. Jump out of your car and read the history on the display. It will take you about 5 mins but it will give you an appreciation for the hard way of life back then and...More

Once we enter Capitol Reef NP, the first historic building we see is the Behunin Cabin. This small structure was built in 1882. There isn't much here but a sign with a little history. Still I look around the harsh landscape and wondered how anyone...More

The family that lived here a year was a family of 15. My goodness, where did they all fit? This is ONE room. It still boggles my mind that people chose to settle in this valley.

You pass right by this cabin on your way into the park, so pull over for a few minutes and take a look at this late 19th century cabin. It was home to a family of 10 -- yes ten -- for a year. If...More

Just a very old settlers cabin by the road. The story of this family and a photo is posted. We felt glad to know that they moved on after a year, this place would have been a very hard location to make a living or...More

This cabin is important because it is a small example of what people had to do to survive during this time. The boys slept in the cave, but they did not know any different. The family worked each day for their existence. No welfare payments...More

This cabin is further east of the park. It isn't a long distance and worth the drive. Imagine living in a cabin like this. Look at the rock mountain behind the cabin as that is where the Behunin boys slept. The Fremont River use to...More
