Wonderful place to start your visit to Capitol Reef. They will give you information on all kinds of stuff. They can tell you the best hikes for you and provide you with maps. And they can answer questions. We learned lots of good information.
Small, as visitor centers go, but nicely laid out. A good selection of souvenirs and displays.
I had to ask one of the rangers: "Why is the place named Capitol Reef?" Seems to be such an odd name for a place nowhere near water.

I would not park at the visitor center. The parking lot is small and gets full. I would drive to the Gifford Ranch Area. There is a huge parking area there and this time of year you should find a space easily for your RV/car. This is all paved road. Then you can use the car to drive into the park The end of the road is not paved to continue into the canyon areas and at the end of the road is petroglyphs This is all possible to drive with your car. Have a good time.
