Better start from South Entrance visitor center as they have a short video to explain the formation of crater lake. West rim is relatively stunning than East rim but still has its own special view pionts.

We did an early morning boat tour (highly recommended) and then ate a packed lunch while we slowly road the rim drive. We made many stops to enjoy the views and take pictures. We had also booked the trolley tour but after driving the rim...More

It's a 33 mile loop with lots of viewpoints....all of them terrific. The trolley is the best way to see them and enjoy the drive.

Make sure you complete the entire Rim Drive. There are many areas to pull over and view the lake (when there is no smoke). Most trailheads are marked with easy parking and bathrooms. If you prefer, you can take the trolley around the rim.

The whole place is elevated,so if you have issues with heights this might not work. Just driving to Crater Lake will put you on big elevation changes. You will be exposed to various height changes.
