This is the perfect selfie spot - it is so unexplained, in the middle of no where! Amazing how the trend was started and is still carried through. Nice break to after long rough road to racetrack. Definitely worth jumping out for a quick photo!

This junction is 20 miles south of Ubehebe Crater on a VERY rough road. Reaching the junction continuing straight will take you down to the Racetrack Playa while a left turn will take you to Hunter Mountain and the Saline Valley. The Hunter Mountain Road is a much easier and more scenic way to access the Racetrack. If you then choose to exit by way of the crater the drive downhill on washboard will be much smoother than the drive uphill would have been.

Make sure you have EXCELLENT tires on your vehicle. Consider renting a jeep at Furnace Creek. Bring a teakettle and add to the collection at this famous junction.

When traveling to The Racetrack in Death Valley you pass right by Tea Kettle Junction. Bring a extra tea kettle with you to add to the collection. It’s located at mile 21 on the road to the Racetrack. The turn off goes up to the Lost Burro Mine.

Dear friends,
When we saw this we didn’t understand what it was for as we just drove by, but found it funny.

On the way to the Racetrack, our guide stopped at this iconic directional sign so that we could add our red teakettle to the collection. Looking at the variety of and messages on the teakettles was a fun way to spend a bit of time. Passersby have left everything from water bottles to coffee pots, some elaborately decorated, but all with identifying words or phrases. The park service does remove the kettles periodically, but the adorned marker is quite a sight to see!

It’s a sign people. Certainly nothing to write home about with all the other amazing things to see in Death Valley. The tea kettles are removed periodically, so if you leave one, you are just contributing to a land fill. I find it particularly offensive when people leave business cards. This is a national park, it should be free of advertising.
Think about your ego and how important it is for anyone else to know that you have been there.
It’s not like you road in on a horse for days. It was an hour and a half to two hours on a bumpy, but relatively maintained road.

It's a strange concept of a load of old teakettles hanging from the sign post to the Racetrack. Most have messages to loved ones on them. It's a wider part of the track so you can stop to recover from the back breaking journey so far.....only 6 more miles to the Racetrack!

Teakettle Junction is a wide spot on the road to the Racetrack Playa. There is a side road that leads to Hunter Mountain. There isn't much to see here other than the junction sign that many visitors have attached teakettles to. Unless you're heading to Hunter Mountain or the Racetrack, I wouldn't recommend making a trip just to see the junction.

If you are headed to the Racetrack, a smile will come to your face when you arrive at Teakettle Junction. Wherever you began the day, you will have traveled quite a ways on rough gravel roads. The junction is a wide spot in the roads where you can get out, stretch your legs and enjoy the notes and teakettles left by other travelers. Fun photo opportunity as well.
No improvements here - no water, no toilets just... teakettles.

Where does the tea kettle junction lead to besides the racetrack playa?
(If I were to turn left coming from ubehebe crater)

Personally, I have never tried that route but you basically are going around the playa on the east side. Eventually, you will hit highway 190 west of Paniment Springs. According to my 4-Wheel-Drive book, the trail is rated as moderate- "Steep and narrow in places with possible washouts and large ruts."
There is an old mining camp on that trail
