One Road with many sights

This is the only road in the Park. It cuts through the most amazing scenery from one end to the other. Look out of the window of your bus and spot bears and caribou and moose

We took a morning bus out to the Eilson Visitor Center. Our bus driver was absolutely terrific, telling stories, pointing out wildlife (how he saw them while driving amazed us), and displaying a significant command of information that enabled us to learn about the Park and the Wildlife. Apparently not all the drivers do this as we did not pay... More

This road not open all the way to private vehicles but is well worth the bus trip. Wild life, scenery and narrow roads make for a very interesting day. If you take your own car you will miss a lot. You can take a short trip up to the park gate on the paved road

We did the 4 hour each way shuttle to the Eielson Centre, thus a total of 8 hours. Whilst we thoroughly enjoyed the ride any longer would have been too long, the park shuttles are not luxury coaches, but I suppose the school bus bit is part of the adventure. We elected to spend some hours around the Eielson Centre... More

We took the 11 hour bus tour to Wonder Lake with a very competent, female driver who handled the muddy, narrow, winding road with amazing skill. We did see wildlife in the rain. I had taken the 8 hour ride on a previous trip and would recommend that one instead of the longer one. When I saw Wonder Lake, I actually wondered... More

We had a fantastic day on the park road up to Eilsen and back. The wildlife was superb and we even got to see Denali. I would say however it's a real hit and miss with the bus drivers. We had a fantastic driver on the way there, she was so knowledgeable and great at spotting wildlife and telling you... More

The park road is very long, narrow in places, has some hair pin turns on the edge of steep cliffs and can be very dusty and bumpy. But, it is exciting!

This is a two lane (almost?) dirt/gravel road with incredibly sharp turns. With that said, I rated as "poor" because one would compare it to an interstate or paved state hiway at least. With that said - for it's location, it's function and suitability - I would rate it excellent in location design, function and maintenance! Skill it mandatory especially... More

It was rainy and chilly the day we went but that in no way deterred from the fabulous nature of this excursion. You get a taste of the wildness and vastness of the park. And the cool misty weather brought out the animals. We had close up looks at 3 Grizzlies, caribou and a mother moose with 2 babies. The... More

The Park Road is really the only way to get deep into the park, barring a helicopter or winter dog sled. You can drive the first 15 miles yourself, but then the remaining distance to mile 89 and the end of the road is via a park shuttle or other similar vehicle. We thought the shuttle was great - we...
