- Claire KHove, United Kingdom2,053 contributionsDay 6 of the American AdventureYes you can read all about it, take a virtual tour but NOTHING prepares you for the heaven on earth view that is the Grand Canyon. That first glimpse….literally bought tears to my eyes. And I’m sure all those tours you can buy are lovely, but we just walked from Bright Angel on the South Rim, along to the Visitor Centre & back again. Perfection. And then , because it was out of season, were allowed to drive to Hermits Rest at the other end. The wardens were hugely helpful & informative & after you’d paid the National Park fee, you could park anywhere & move from area to area. Oh & we did some laundry at the Market Plaza in between breakfast….happy days. Grand Canyon though. A sight we’ll never forget.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 27, 2024
- Timo van den BergOvertornea, Sweden868 contributionsBreathtaking location with great trails and parkingspotsThe views here are breathtaking. The area is so unique and beautiful, we enjoyed every minute. Every second you move around, you want to take a hundred pictures. Every viewing point has a parking lot and most of them have a toilet. There are good places for food and drinks, and souvenirs. The visitors centers are also good. Having a quick chat with some park-rangers will also learn you more and more of the area. Spend some days here. We did just one day, but we only drove around. Hiking here on the trails would be lovely, but I was sick during my stay.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten March 10, 2024
- travelingal31105 contributionsAnother Great National Park!We only visited the South Rim. We all loved it. The pictures don't do it justice. We were able to hike quite a bit. We never had to wait long for a bus! I liked that you could rent bikes right at the visitor's center!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 17, 2024
- Maiya LStockton, California113 contributionsEveryone must see onceAwe inspiring views! Lots of elk and deer along the roads. Everyone should experience the Grand Canyon once in their lifetime. Find a spot to watch the sun set and be totally amazed. We went in the off season and it was still crowded but nothing like the summers. A car pass is good for 7 days so you can go into the park as many times as you want without paying each time.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 22, 2024
- WIatHeartGreenleaf, Wisconsin148 contributionsScenery to enjoyBucket list item checked off. The weather partially cooperated, was a bit chilly, but being from the midwest, we were prepared with our winter jackets. There is a fully functional small town here, so though priced accordingly, you can find pretty much whatever you need here. Grocery store, library, bus service. We hiked a stretch of the rim trail, enjoyed seeing more of the nooks and crannies than would from the road, and then took the shuttle once we were ready to see the rest of the stops in the westerly direction and head back for our lunch break. The sun didn't fully cooperate, but did get a few shots of good lighting at sunset one of our two nights. How dark it gets creating incredible starry night views was amazing. Yes, it's just a big hole in the ground, but every stretch of the rim trail gives you a new view to enjoy.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 26, 2024
- Icarus4335Colorado Springs, Colorado806 contributionsBreathtaking ViewsGreat trip, we spent most of the day 7-4 and were able to stop at basically every spot from the east entrance (where we came in) all the way through the visitor center, village, market, hermit's rest, etc. Definitely a lot of walking and several opportunities to hike. The shuttle buses were pretty efficient; we never waited more than 15 minutes to get on, even though it was busy by the afternoon. One suggestion; instead of trying to park at the visitor center, which fills up really quickly, park somewhere near Market Plaza. Even by the time we left there were tons of open spots, whereas the visitor center lots were all full and cars were parking down both sides of the street, etc. You can take the shuttles basically everywhere, so I don't think it matters where you leave your car for the day.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 27, 2024

- JuroraPeterborough, Canada599 contributionsVisited here winter 2023.Who wouldn't rate this a 5 star attraction! The views were outstanding, and such a natural setting...not man-made!! Hubby and I visited together this time, and I had last been here with my parents and siblings in Aug of '69 and '73, then March of '76. I am afraid of heights, so I didn't look over too much. We started at Mather Point, where my legs would not allow me to go up to the lookout, but my hubby did, and he was in awe, with his mouth open, of the beauty and depth of the Canyon. He had never been before, so all new to him. We walked along, westward, and with quite a bit of snow and some icy bits on the trail, that made me more nervous, so I held his arm, not closest to the edge. The trail can be close to the edge of the Canyon, and we wondered why the park didn't have logs or rocks along those areas, for more of a protection from the edge. My daughter felt that way too, when she visited in May of 22. I was okay to go out onto a lookout area, that had railings along it, and another area much further along that has a gift shop building, right at the edge, so I was able to look below, inside this building, where I felt safer. It wasn't a complete drop-off at that area though. That was close to the Bright Angel Trail. We did use the bus service within the park, to get to that area and back. We did go into another gift shop, beforehand, and earlier at the Visitor's Centre, we went in to the theatre to watch a film on the history, nature and all about the park. A must see! Luckily we were there late morning until mid aft, when it was sunny, with just a bit of breeze, because later pm, the gray clouds came in, and the wind picked up! We were there 3.5 hours.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten April 15, 2024
- Travel_ExpertSan Antonio, Texas79 contributionsIncredible ViewsStunning creation of nature. The endless view of orange colors should amaze you, with streams of blue. - gwlillieNash, Oklahoma47 contributionsWonderful experience with a twistThe day was beautiful, and the views were amazing. It is a "once in a lifetime" experience. Be sure to spend a whole day and enjoy it all. Also the shuttle service was great except there are times when the shuttles are full and you have to wait for the next one. The only issue we found was in parking. We parked next to the Belle Isle Bicycle rental and took the shuttle from there. However, when we asked the shuttle driver to drop us off, he dropped us off at the Belle Isle Trailhead....several miles from our car. We asked around and no one could direct us to our vehicle. After about an hour, a nice couple offered to help and new the park well enough to take us to our parking area. Maybe, Grand Canyon needs to change the name of their bicycle rental area.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 23, 2024

I visited Grand Canyon National Park last week, and it was absolutely stunning as always! The breathtaking canyons carved by the Colorado River never fail to amaze me. Since it’s winter, the park was less crowded, making it easy to find parking at all viewpoints and allowing plenty of time to explore peacefully.
Sunsets are early, around 5 PM, and it gets very cold once the sun sets, so be prepared if you’re planning a trip soon. I highly recommend catching the sunset at Mather Point—the hues reflecting on the canyons were bright and fiery, creating a magical view!

I recommend the park card which we paid 80 dollars for 2 years for 2 people rather than paying at each park, it is much more economical, not valid for the Indian parks.
The visit is simple, we drive, we stop, we look etc... the temperature is ideal at this time and what's more, there is no one there.
An exceptional, gigantic site, you have to see it to believe it! we did it by helicopter, if you can afford it don't hesitate for a second, very nice experience with Maverick.

Geesh such a national treasure. This needs to be on everyone's bucket list. This is a truly special place. We drove to the park from Williams. The first view of the canyon is from Mather's Point very near to the visitor center. Once you park leave your car there and take the shuttles. Very well-organized shuttle system. Towards Hermits Rest no cars are allowed except in the winter months. The buses run about every 15 minutes or so. When you are done viewing and area there is usually a short wait until the bus returns and takes you farther. Some of the shuttle drivers are very informative others only say what they need to say. Every overlook is breathtaking. At Hermits Rest you ride the bus back. The bus stops at all overlooks going out but only three coming back so pay attention so you don't get stuck somewhere. After the shuttle ride we drove out towards the east to Grandview. That road goes farther but we were tired and out of time.

We chose to visit here by going on an sunset / evening helicopter tour which took us from the Las Vegas strip / airport to a fly by into the canyons, set down on a landing spot for 45 minutes to take in the sights and then return fly by through the canyon to Las Vegas. If able to, I would recommend this as the experience is incredible and the sights / colours are astounding!
When we landed I spent the first 15 minutes without my phone out and not saying anything. I stood there and just took in the sights and sounds. It is immense. I would recommend that anyone visiting this does this, first stand and take in what you’re seeing and stand in awe at the sheer expanse. It is truly impressive. Afterwards, take those photos and videos!!
Doing the sunset helicopter tour meant we went out and saw the canyons in the daylight and then turn to a range of oranges, reds and almost golden colour in the setting sun. Even if not able to see it from the air, these sights and colours would be equally as impactful on foot! I would urge you visit the canyons if possible in the sunset time period to see these incredible views.
This will be a memory that will stick with me forever and I would urge anyone in Vegas to visit this site. Even if you have seen it before! I know I’ll be back again!

The Grand Canyon does not disappoint. It was amazing to see. I highly recommend seeing a sunrise and sunset. The shadows create an amazing effect that you do not get in the middle of the day. It is people-ly, even in March, but mainly at the main parking area and Mather Point. The bus out to Hermit's Rest in the morning was very pleasant. It was getting busy about the time we headed back to the lodge. It was also cold in the AM and warm in the afternoon, so dress in layers (depending on season).

The canyon is always amazing each time you view it offering the eyes even more than what pictures can offer. Every few yards you walk in any direction can give a new prospective. A national parks pass is well worth the money as you likely will want to enter the park several times after a break and catch the many trams to other locations in the park. All prices in the Canyon area for food will leave your wallet lighter so be ready! There is a shuttle (purple line, I believe) takes you from town just outside the park, though I did not use it (didn't know soon enough) Be prepared for standing room only shuttles in the park and / or waiting for one or two more, 10 minutes apart or so. Even at that, relax, get off and walk to the view points and experience what IS one of the 7 wonders of the world for yourself. You WONT be disappointed you did! OH and bring along a good size water bottle and fill it at every location you see. The air is thin and you will be glad you did!

I just had the most amazing birthday trip that I’ll always remember! Visiting the Grand Canyon was truly an unforgettable experience. The sheer size and breathtaking beauty of this natural wonder left me in awe. The vibrant colors of the rock formations are simply captivating. Every viewpoint offers a unique perspective, and I ended up snapping tons of photos, though none could really capture its essence.
The hiking paths are well-maintained, catering to all skill levels, so you can really take in the stunning landscapes. It’s a good idea to take your time on the trails and explore the less crowded paths.
The park facilities are excellent, with friendly staff and a super helpful visitor center. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a photography enthusiast, or just want to relax and enjoy the scenery, the Grand Canyon has something for everyone.
Overall, this trip was truly inspiring. If you’re after adventure, beauty, and a sense of wonder, the Grand Canyon is a must-visit. I can’t wait to go back for another adventure!

Ok, I get it.
There is so much beauty here that we can never express what we saw, but we can express how we saw it.
For many of us we do not have the time to walk the length of the south rim to the Hermit rest or the Look out Tower to the east.. As a train traveler we did not have the luxury of a car so what did we do?
We took Shuttles provided by the National park Service. These shuttles were driven by dedicated, professional men and women who are there to get us from point A to point B, safely, quickly and diplomatically.
We saw first hand how well the drivers deal with hundreds of visitors from other countries who had little or no knowledge of our language. We saw driver who had foreign visitors standing at the shuttle doors while trying to find out where they were or how to get to where they wanted to go. These drivers face these situations every day they are behind the wheel and deal with them diplomatically. Most will still still take time to point out points of interest or locations of the local wildlife.
Hats off to the shuttle drivers and thank you for you service.

We arrived from Zion National Park, so we arrived through the East Entrance, South Rim. Right after that entrance, you’ll definitely want to check out the Dessert View as not also the view is great as expected, it has a famous tower built in 1932 and during the day you can get a free ticket to go towards the top. Also as a bonus tip, inside the tower is a gift shop and while not a visitor center, at the information desk they can give you a Junior Ranger book in case you needed one.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you go through the East Entrance, it’s a solid 30 minutes to get to the ‘village’ with the various hotels and attractions and that’s assuming you don’t make any stops along the way. It’s a unique place as it’s the first national park I went to that had actual schools and a church on site (perhaps other places like Yellowstone have them too, but you don’t see them on the main route).
One thing to keep in mind that while we were there, the visitor centers were only open until noon due to staff shortages
.
While not required like Zion, there is a shuttle service and there are different routes. We didn’t take one since we were there for a day, but they looked packed and the main one that went to the various hotels (blue) had many stops so you’ll need to be patient.
There are various hikes you can take, and they don’t all involve going into the canyon so if you don’t have time, you can still enjoy the beauty. Unlike other national parks where you may have limited to no options, there are a decent number of places to eat and plenty of gift shops that are happy to take your money.
One thing that was disappointing is that some of the park is rundown. For example, Hermits Rest is a great place to watch the sunrise. However, while there, I noticed that the fencing in portions is mostly torn/fallen off, and the informational signs look very worn. In both cases, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s been that way for years. With the large volume of visitors (and money) that’s coming in, there is no reason that can’t be maintained, and I’ve been to multiple other national parks and didn’t see this. Of course, I would still recommend going, but just something I wasn’t expecting to see.

I was a little surprised at how touristy the national park is, at least the South Rim. The amount of tacky gift shops all selling the same overpriced books, t-shirts, etc. was pretty incredible. I was also surprised by all the development, especially endless rows of overpriced hotel accommodation on par with a Motel 6 outside the national park. My recommendation? Get there early (7 am) to avoid long lines at the entrance. When I visited there were only two or three payment lanes; one was fully automated, the other two presumably real people.

If we’re passing through the Canyon and only had 2-3 hours to hike - which trails, (which rim) are most recommended for moderately skilled hikers?
Written October 24, 2022
If you have 2 - 3 hrs to spend in Grand Canyon, I recommend go to South Rim. There is free shuttle bus service in the park. I recommend to take Red Shuttle bus, from the Village center close to Bright Angel trailhead. The shuttle stops at multiple panoramic view points along the Hermit Road on South Rim. You will have to walk from the shuttle bus stop to the view points/overlooks. The overlooks are not far from the shuttle bus stop (less than a quarter mile). If you are interested in walking a longer distance, you can walk along the Hermit road. There is a trail there.

We’re heading back to the GC and wanting to hike a new trail. I don’t know the name of the last trail we hiked. It started at the horse corral where they give trail rides. Once you started descending down there are petroglyphs or pictographs on the cliffs and mountain goats relaxing on above. We climbed down to a restroom that had a railing and stairs which took several hours. Then be started to turn back and begin our assent. We passed a lot of bickers that came from camping further below in the bottom of the canyon. We were told it wasn’t too much further. What trail

Can you buy the National Parks annual pass at the Grand Canyon south rim?
Written September 16, 2020
My first time, I am athletic, 2nd person is not! Thinking about if i need a Tour guide or not?
is it worth paying for one? or explore on my own? only for the first visit, do the South Rim, and the South Kaibab 6 miles, thinking of having a tour guide. The pick up is in flagstaff, 1 hr 30 min. away from The Grand canyon!! they are round trip, and its a private tour. I want to explore more, its overwhelming beautiful of places to see. Originally I wanted to do a 4 days and Rim to Rim.
But its booked up for October.

We are planning on booking a tour to fly out from Vegas. We would have a couple hours to spend at the canyon. Can anyone recommend which rim we should visit for the best sights and best short hikes to get off the beaten path and away from the crowds?
Thank you!
Written September 11, 2020
North rim is less populated but I would say that the South rim is better suited to short hikes. It will really depend on which you think is a higher priority.
