We took the spectacular 12-mile scenic drive up Wheeler Peak. Be aware that this is a narrow, curvy 2-lane mountain road with steep drop-offs, but it is paved and well-maintained (35 mph, no vehicles over 24' length). There are 2-3 overlooks along the way to...More

I had to laugh at the review which states the drive was too scary to be enjoyed. Were you driving a huge RV? Have you ever been to a national park? Oh well, everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion. I would have been...More

12 miles of a white knuckle drive to the top; . NO guard rails on this extremely narrow road. You can't view the vistas because you are too nervous driving to take your eyes off the road. I now know why this is the least...More

A very tough but exhilarating 6.2 mile trek if you include the lakes loop. 1200 foot elevation rise and at times very rough terrain. The Glacier at the end of the trail is quite unique. Well worth the five hours it took two out of...More

8.4 miles round trip. 3041 feet of elevation gained. Starting at 10,003. Finishing at 13,044 feet. This was our first "13er". You go from a forested alpine environment to above the treeline. Once you get above the treeline you'll be hiking on nothing but rock...More

We took the scenic drive to the 10,000 ft. Gorgeous views! There is a campground at this level and trails to the peak. You have to allow at least an hour to complete the drive.

On our third trip to Great Basin National Park we decided to try to climb Wheeler Peak. We are in decent shape, but haven't done altitude hikes for a while. It showed! We started off at 6:30 AM to allow plenty of time. The first...More

A gorgeous drive up to 10000+ feet offered amazing views of the peak, the park and the basin below. The trail traversed forests, streams, rocks, snow (in July) and was a really nice hike. An excellent experience in this beautiful park.
