This is the highest point in the Smokey Mountains for miles around. To get to the top, there is a 1/2 mile walk from the parking lot to the base of the tower. The walk is paved, but very steep. Keep in mind that it is not only steep, but the elevation is over 6,000 feet. Also dress appropriately. The... More

We went up to see the great views however the hike was challenging. Although the trail was paved it is up a pretty steep incline. It is worth the hike but you will feel it the next day in your legs. There are several benches along the way to stop and catch your breath which is nice.

We visited the week of Thanksgiving. There was ice on the sides of the mountains on the road up to Clingman's Dome, and it was cold and windy at the top. The hike up to the observation tower was short (about 1/2 mile) and steep, so those of us not in top physical condition had to stop and rest a... More

I would suggest checking the weather before driving up to the dome. The weather seemed fine at the bottom of the mountain but once we got to the dome we couldn't see a thing! There was at least a 10 degree difference in temperature from the bottom to the top of the mountain. There are several pull offs to get... More

If you have the chance to visit Clingmans Dome, I say do it!! What a spectacular sight!!! While the climb is arduous and not for the faint of heart, it is well worth the sweat. There are points along the hike to sit and catch your breath. But the sight you will experience when you reach the top will take... More

Well, it's not Pikes Peak but it is actually prettier in my opinion! Add on another 8,000 feet and you would have Pikes Peak. The Smoky Mountains are absolutely beautiful in their own way, green trees, rock outcrops and the smoky haze that is always present. Granted the smoke on this visit was due to the many wildfires in the... More

The hike to the top was short but strenuous. Super steep but I made it carrying a 23 lb baby so you can do it. 6 and 8 year old made it with only a few short breaks. The view from the top was awesome, it's the highest point in Tennessee! THe Appalachain Trail crosses the trail to the dome.... More

I can't even describe it. It was too amazing. You will have to experience it for yourself. There won't be any regrets.

This is an easy hike for pretty much anyone. The views begin in the parking lot! Every turn you take has yet another spectacular view. Once you get to the top, get ready to have your breath taken away. Not for those afraid of heights...the view from the dome can make you just a bit dizzy!

We started on the Tennessee side and it a great drive. We saw a flock of turkeys on the way to the top. At Clingman's Dome the weather was fantastic and the views were breath taking. On the way down to North Carolina, we ran into an area with signs of elk, did not see any, but my granddaughter did... More
