If you want to go to Proctor, NC and not have several days of hiking in, you need to find a shuttle across Fontana Dam Lake. We had trouble finding a shuttle because it was off season. Hazel Creek is widely regarded as one of the premier trout-fishing streams in the Southeast. It can be accessed via canoe or ferry from the Fontana Lake Marina, or via trail due southwest from the AT and Clingmans Dome area.
