An alternate choice from Cades Cove is Roaring Forks. You might consider this ride being the Cove opens late on Wednesdays because of the bicyclist. and is closed for cars so we ended up at Roaring Fork and sure glad we did. Beautiful landscape to drive through and not as busy as Cades Cove. A very quite ride and hardly... More

This is a beautiful drive with historic cabins and houses. There is also a hike to a beautiful waterfall. I did not hike to the falls on this trip, but did a few years ago. If you are considering the hike, be sure to research to decide if you are in good-enough shape to do it. The Ogle cabin and... More

The Roaring Fork Drive is nice, but I think I preferred Cades Cove. If you're in the area give it a try and see if you agree.

The Ogle Place is the first main stop along a Roaring Forks Motor Trail. The home and barn are nice, but littered with grafitti. The real joy to this stop is found in the nature trail loop. It is relatively short, but packed with fun sites. You cross bridges made from fallen trees, can explore the creek, climb a massive... More

Can't believe we were never here before. Beautiful area. Lots of spots to pull off for photos. Waterfalls to hike to from easy to moderate. If you're lucky you can spot a bear in the early hours of the morning. Nice little area at the end of their drive with restrooms.

The Trillium Trail was amazing. The waterfall at the top is worth the challenging hike. Lots of incline on the way up plus the rocks and roots make you pay attention the whole time up and down. Took about 45 mins to get up there (only 1.2 miles) and 35 mins to come down. Watch for the working Llamas.

As Cade Cove was closed for cars because of Wednesday being a bike and walk day (?) we ended up at Roaring Fork and boy were we glad. Beautiful landscape to drive through and not as busy as Cades Cove. It was almost a drive on our own, we barely met any others. Had the luck of seeing a black... More

We have been here in the past and really enjoy the peaceful drive through the woods . We decided to go this time right before sunset and it turned out to be a great choice . We saw two bear at two different places. The first stood there about ten feet from the car and ate not even caring we... More

The Roaring Fork area can be visited early morning straight out of Gatlinburg ... every opportunity to beat the crowds! The Motor Nature Trail is a one way drive taking you past several starting points for hikes with limited parking.

We didn't feel like Roaring Fork was worth doing for the drive itself. If you are going there to hike one of the trails, then that's a different story. We saw one wild turkey during the drive and that was the only wildlife we saw. From a similar experience without the crowds, I would do the unmaintained road in Cade's... More
