My family and I went to the Crater the View was really incredible. You are above the clouds waiting for the sun to rise, truly in Gods country. It’s an extremely high elevation, 14,000 feet and the air is thin but worth the pay off....More

I was in Maui for a conference, but we had an extra day to go and explore. We decided to rent a car and drive up Haleakala to look at the crater. Absolutely hands-down one of the coolest things I've seen. It was so beautiful...More

Normally my wife and I prefer to DIY our vacation experiences but due to me breaking my foot a week before our trip we scrambled to find a tour company that could accommodate my extra baggage (knee scooter). We chose Polynesian adventure Tours and they...More

We drove to Haleakala for sunset. I was reluctant because it started raining on the way up and I was afraid the fog would be horrible on the way down, but my husband was insistent. I am glad he was. It didn't take us long...More

This is a very long road to the top, switchbacks, hairpin turns oncoming traffic, bicycles. The view spectacular, don’t try it if the mountains are in the clouds it will be a waste of time without the view from the many lookout stops on the...More

I visited during the sunrise tour. This really is a beautiful experience. We took a tour but I'd recommend looking into doing it on your own. If you plan ahead you can get the permit and drive up on your own so you don't have...More

We drove up mid morning and the view was great from the top. The drive was spectacular and the information in the visitors centre was educational. Very glad we did this drive and saw the crater for ourselves.

Yes, you'll have to wake in the pre-dawn hours but to see the sun rise above the crater, or erosional valley as we were corrected, it worth the inconvenience. Pre-dawn colors start approximately 45-min before the sun breaks the horizon. Arrive early as the spots...More

This is a must do road trip when you visit Maui. It was an amazing visit. We started the trip at sea level and 80 degree weather. When we reached the summit, we were at 10,028 feet and a cool 56 degrees. We could see...More

Driving from sea level to 10,000 ft - of course you want to do that! Beautiful scenery. If you get a chance, go up there for the sunrise. You have to go online and reserve (only a $1.50). They only allow so many cars for...More

It’s good MOST of the way. A Harley motorcycle, maybe. I’ve met people that have bikes the entire road on a road bike and were fine. It’s truly up to you and your comfort and confidence on your bike.

U can do the phone but we printed it off from the hotel as backup which worked out well. Bring hotel blankets as it gets very very cold, like 1C
