Chilly inside and a little wet. Great for all ages to walk though. Easily accessible and fairly flat terrain. Great experience and well worth exploring. Starts and finishes in a beautiful rainforest. Clearly marked signs showing entrance located within Volcanoes National Park. Great for all...More

This is a small, short lava tube. I would look for the Friends of Volcano National Park website to find the really good lava tube exploration in the Puapo'o Lava Tube. This is far superior and worth the time to see

This is like being in a subway tunnel created by molten rock. Even though it is lit bring a flashlight along to avoid puddles. While there are thousands of lave tubes we were told, this one is the most accessible.

We actually did the loop and then reversed course to go back through. We took our time and used our phone flashlights to explore the walls and ceiling of the lava tube the second time through. Take your time, read the signs by the trail,...More

We’re so excited 😆 to explore the lava tube and it was a nice experience. Before reaching the entrance we passed through a wide waved trail and enjoy incredible lush of greens, canopy of Hawaiian - Ohi’a, ferns, fuchsia paniculata, knotweed (restricted only to the...More

It was raining both inside and our but it was well worth the walk to be able to put this on the bucket list. It's hard to imagine that where we walked was once a conduit for lava.

We loved it, but it’s best early in the morning before too many people get there. Can be a little wet so wear good shoes and bring a flashlight.

don't miss it. don't be afraid of doing all these stairs down. on the other side of tube you just walk in the forrest without any problem after <10 steps out of tube. it's wet and cool inside. watch your steps.

There are not many places on this planet that can offer this experience. Lava tubes are not normally this big. It takes about 15/20 minutes return from the parking lot. However if you are able to climb a steep paved slope and climb some steps...More

The tube is real close to Kilauea and the kava flies down to the ocean. You should see Kilauea during day and night.
