My wife & I visited HVNP on a mostly sunny & breezy day in October. We didn't make the drive all the way down to the ocean end of Chain of Craters Road to see the Kilauea lava flowing into the water at Kamokuna, but we did get to see some amazing lava activity from the back deck of the... More

My husband and I took a tour that included the lava tube, a stop at a viewpoint of the crater, and then Kilauea Volcano itself at dusk. It is all very amazing. We were fortunate enough to be there when there was lava spewing up and you could see cracks in the "lava lake". I highly recommend the Park and... More

Cost $20 to enter the national park. We got there about 4:00 pm. Visitor center closes at 5:00. It's a nice center and the guides are welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. Well-maintained restrooms. We were only disappointed in that to get to the current eruption, you have to drive another 2 miles from the VC (not a big deal), but then... More

This national park is truly unique. From the drive up from the entrance to the visitors center this park offers wonderful educational opportunities. The on-site hotel looks to be a great place to observe the caldera at night and has a bar and grill. The park is also open 24 hours a day for anyone who wishes to oberve the... More

This is a must do while on the big island! You can do it all in one day but it will take several hours and you will have to keep the hiking to a minimum. Definitely go see the sea arch, the crater (especially at night so you can see it glow) and walk the lava tube. Bring a rain... More

This was the most amazing thing I have EVER seen! Spent a day there and was one of the best days and awesome, unbelievable in which pictures do not do it justice. The hotel on top with the views is spectacular...looking right out at a volcano! A must do if you come to The Big Island!!

The park is well staffed and the entry fee gives you 7 days of access. You can take the more Leisurely hikes near the top of the active caldera and visit the museum. The ranger staff were very friendly and helpful even though it was busy due to the dramatic lava flows currently ongoing. If you choose the hike down... More
