Go early. Around 7-8 am is perfect. Fewer crowds and more wildlife. Stop and take pictures. Will take you across the Continental Divide. Any car can make it. Road is wide, paved, and well maintained. Allow 2-3 hours.

Decent amount of pull offs. Fair number of restrooms. Great views. Several opportunities for short hikes. Expect easy hikes, as far as terrain, but expect lots of steps and/or elevation gains. Lots of twists and turns, for the drive, but plenty of lane width, etc....More

I am afraid of heights. If you are also afraid of heights you should be the person in control and behind the wheel. It can be hell in the passenger seat. The views are without parallel. The road is really, really busy which means that...More

If a picture is worth 1000 words there is not enough film nor digital memory to capture the beauty. Enjoy the scenic pull outs. Wildlife, trees, water falls, and the tundra are a few thing to prepare yourself for. Take the time to enjoy the...More

Beautiful views, but not for those of us that don't like high narrow roads without guardrails. The easy short walking path at Rock Cut is worth the hike up to 12,300 ft. Saw a huge herd of elk this year. Saw a bunch of bighorn...More

We started the drive in Estes and went to Grand Lake. The higher you travel, the more fantastic the views. When we arrived at the tundra area, both sides of the road were covered with herds of elk. They were everywhere! My young children were...More

The road was a great way to experience Rocky Mountain National Park. We easily entered from the south and stopped at the visitor's center. There was a book that pinpointed and described various stops along the way--if you have the funds, I would recommend it!...More

We were coming from western Colorado to Estes Park during the week prior to the 4th of July. As expected, the crowds were extensive, but the drive was still so inspiring. Most of the turnoffs were not accessible (too many cars)...several instances of elk sightings...More

I can't imagine visiting RMNP and not driving the Trail Ridge Road. Start early to avoid the crowds- it does get busy. Stop at the overlooks- I recommend the Forest Canyon overlook- and watch for marmots, elk and big horn sheep. Stay hydrated so the...More

Yes there are bathrooms at Rainbow Curve pull out! Not sure about water re-fills at that stop though.
