Shenandoah Park is a relatively narrow National Park and the Skyline Drive provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy this park as an alternative to hiking the Appalachian Trail which parallels the drive through much of the park. There are numerous pullouts and interpretative signs which provide the visitor an opportunity to experience the park. Food at the Waysides and Lodge... More

Three days after snow fell in mid-March, we were able to drive the southern 75 miles of the drive. It took about two and a half hours (averaging about 30 mph) even though we stopped only briefly at most pullover areas. It was a cloudy day - so not the most scenic occasion - but still worthwhile.

This is a surprising break from the heat of Virginia. Although there are a lot of cars, many overlooks give a break, and there are dozens of hikes that get you off the main drag.

Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive have long been favorites of mine since my childhood. From childhood vacations, to romantic visits with my wife, and this Labor Day Motorcycle trip the Skyline Drive never disappoints. One of my best friends called me and suggested a spur of the moment ride over to the Skyline Drive and through Southern WV.... More

Skyline drive offers incredible sights, overlooks and trails. We purchased the annual pass because we like to visit national parks and the pass gives us an excuse to do so more often. Be sure to get a map where you enter and to gas up before you come. We enjoyed the waterfalls on the Dark Hollow Falls Trail and the... More

One of the most beautiful places in Virginia in my opinion. Take advantage of at least one hike and as many overlooks as you can.

I had no idea that the Blue Ridge Mountain range was so breathtaking until we did the drive. There is a great deal of things to do in this park. Hiking, waterfalls, scenic passes and views, camping, and lodging within the park itself. There is a main visitors center near the Meadows, that has a fantastic display and walk through... More

This is one of the premier and most visited scenic drives in America, with a well maintained National Park road meandering across the ridges of the Blue Ridge Mountains....it has become known as Skyline Drive. Gorgeous panoramic vistas are available to travelers, but there is an NPS admission fee by the carload. Travelers can travel and stop at will at... More

All facilities are now closed except the pit toilets. While that will keep some people away, it is an attraction to us. No leaves to block views, grasses are low at overlooks, the trees and mountain laurel are great. This is a place for every season, and it's even better without the crowds.

We were here October 2016 for the changing of the leaves and we were not disappointed. We drove slowly and stopped at all the pull offs heading north and did the same when heading south. Wonderful scenery and we hope to do it again next year.
