Road the entire Skyline from Front Royal to Waynesboro on a motorcycle - again. And it never disappoints. Price felt higher than I remembered: $20 for a motorcycle. Views are awesome, road is kept in very good condition. Be warned that in the summer, storm...More

Stunning drive through beautiful forests. You can see both sides of the Ridge as you are right along the top of it. We did get to occasionally see a fantastic view between the clouds parting which was great but also a shame as I was...More

If you can handle the winding road, there is plenty of vistas and trails to stop and explore. Be careful at dusk, many deer on the road.

We drive on skyline drive almost every summer on our way north from Florida with two of our grandsons. There are some great views and wonderful hikes along the road. Don't take this road if you are in a hurry. Be aware of deer. They...More

Wanting to see mountain laurel in bloom, we traveled an easy day trip of two and half hours from Harrisburg, PA to the Skyline Drive entrance at Front Royal, VA. This was on Saturday, June 10th and I would say the buds were at the...More

We took 2 half days to drive Skyline and spent the night on the mountain. The views are spectacular, but so are the flowers and trees and wildlife. Yes, we even saw a black bear as well as numerous white tailed deer. Stop and read...More

What a beautiful place! For a $25 entrance fee you experience gorgeous mountain views. If your're into scenic views, waterfalls and nature's best then don't miss this park. The park is really just one long road:aka skyline drive with trails on either side. Lots of...More

Shenandoah National Park is only an hour and a half from Washington, DC, and it has so much to offer. The Park itself is long and skinny, oriented along along the Shenandoah ridgeline. Skyline Drive is oriented the same way and runs the length of...More

We were going to Monticello the next day and thought this drive would be nice. It was a good change from the four lane highway we had been on for all most two days. It required us to slow down and relax. We used our...More

We are planning on doing Skyline Drive on our way back to Chicago from D.C. If we don't want to do the entire 105 scenic drive, is there a way to re-connect to the Interstate? Thanks!

You'll get a map as you enter so you can see where you can get off and connect back with the interstate.

Hi, I am planning to have a trip to Skyline Drive this July. I will start from Frederick MD. I have a plan to visit Luray Caverns through 340 and then 211 to enter through Thornton Gap entrance. I am not an expert driver and getting really intimidated by the curvy mountain roads. My question is how difficult it is to drive on the stretch from Thornton to Skyland resort? Is there any better route option? Google map points out this road to be of restricted usage. I am not sure what does that mean. Are there any restrooms available along this stretch? Where should I pay the park fee? Can I pay it advanced online? All suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

Just a few more points: Route 211 for the last few miles before you arrive at Thornton Gap is a steep uphill drive with lots of curves. You pay your entrance fee at the Thornton Gap entrance. It's only about ten miles from... More

It is a two lane slow speed highway. You can't just get on and off as you like as far as going back down the mountain but there are enough exits off the mountain that you don't have to drive the whole thing.
