Visited on a Sun to do the 9 mile hike. After the 0.8 mile access road hike to the trailhead, it goes upward immediately and is full of rocks and roots. This goes on for a while and then the fun boulder scramble starts. It...More

Firstly, I should probably qualify myself for this review. I'm middle-aged and moderately fit (read: dad bod.) The 9 mile, or so hike is beautiful, typical of Shenandoah, but that's not what you should take away from this write up. The trek to the summit...More

I am extremely active and have an athletic frame. I usually work out 12-14 hours a week with running, boot camp, insanity, biking...etc. I found this hike to be one of the most difficult things I have ever done. It didn't matter that it was...More

It was a cold rainy day in late April. The fog was so thick we couldn't see anything beyond 100 feet. The rocks were so slippery that any misstep could spell disaster. But it was phenomenal. Highly recommended in any weather.

Tired, but worth it ... take lots of water, a snack and some good climbing shoes and please do not go back, get to the end and enjoy the trip and the view.

Beautiful ~9.5mile hike, with a gorgeous scenery up top. It can be quite challenging at times- pretty steep at first and lots of sliding down big rocks and finding your way out in the big rock scramble, but very worth it! A fun challenge and...More

The hike up and down old rag was totally worth it! We hiked up clockwise, so didn't hit the rock scramble till the way down. The sacramble was ridiculously fun and really challenging. Great teamwork as our teenagers helped guide us all through the challenges....More

I can say we did this once in our lives. Took all day, bring lots of water and snacks/lunch. Breathtaking views. Need to be in excellent physical shape since some rocks you have to climb over.

Be prepared to do a lot of scrambling over rocks. This is probably the most difficult hike I have ever done. But, the view at the top is absolutely worth it. If you want to hike the entire circuit make sure you are in good...More

No. You need to know what you are doing and be able to scramble some awkward stretches of rock. It is not just a simple walk.

Eight year old's yes, Five maybe cutting it too close. Either way don't let the kids get ahead. It's a long and hard walk. Kids can do it but they may fuss after many hours of hiking. You know your kids best about their... More

I was thinking it would be a great uber venture...have someone spend their day ferrying people up. You could probably have one person in your party drop you off, but there is no way to avoid going back down to the parking... More
