This hike goes around the perimeter of parts of the park and offers good vistas of the varieties of landscape. It can be muddy and actually dangerous to hike if there has been recent rain.

The Caprock-Coulee Trail is located near the center of the North Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The North Unit is located about 65 miles north of the South Unit. It is also located about 16 miles south of Watford City, ND. This is...More

This was an excellent hike. It started low and climbed graduallly... up to a point then got much steeper. The steeper slopes were forested and shady, which was something of a surprise. The trail topped out on top of the canyons and circles through the...More

This is a great trail! Takes you through a wide variety of landscapes. It's about a 4.4 mile loop with a tolerable 600 foot elevation gain. But you have to do this trail counter clockwise because if you go clockwise, the first half mile will...More

Any nature trail that comes with a written guide and numbered posts is usually pretty lame and boring in my opinion/experience, but I am happy to say this trail was the exception to the rule. Almost every time my Mom and I asked a question...More

Very nice hike. About 2 hours to do the whole loop. Half of it goes thru forest when you are climbing up so you get some shade. I did have a couple of ticks crawling up my leg so use the bug spray. The elevation...More

My wife and I did this hike and it took about 2 hours. It gives you a feel for the landscape and terrain. There are several areas where there were changes in elevation, but I thought the hike was fair.

If you are to only do one hike in the entire park, I would do this one. Less than, 5 miles, good work out and excellent views of the badlands and Little Missouri river. The hike starts with a short interpretive trial, so pick up...More
