I have been to Zion Ntl Park three times, twice in the seventies when there were no travel restrictions so the (understandable due to volume) opportunity to see some parts only by foot or the bus for a photographer can be frustrating, And then there is the separate area often missed KOLOB TERRACE Road. OMG, it was rainy and stormy... More

Traveled this road on our way to Zion Canyon. There are some gorgeous views here, and it was fun to be driving in and out of the park and seeing the homes of folks who choose to live in such a remote area. We did part of the Wildcat Canyon hike--a good way to get prepared for more vertical hikes... More

The last time I visited Zion National Park, I was disappointed to find this road closed. This visit, it was open and we drove as far as the Lava Point Lookout, with many stops and hikes along the way. The view from the lookout point is awesome. There's a campground, picnic area and restrooms here as well. Along the way,... More

October is a busy time at Zion NP. The weather is lovely and the park is so beautiful with the leaves turning. But, oh, the crowds! However, if you take some time in the less frequented parts of the park, you can have a much quieter experience. Going north from Virgin, we rode up the Kolob Terrace Rd. And turned... More

The individual rock formations along this road make it an excellent scenic drive with the aim of Lava Point towards the end of the made up road and the Lake at the end. Many of the Zion park Trails start from points along this road and the Lava point overview of the park from lava cliffs looking south to the... More

We took the Terrace Road, after we had been in Zion Canyon and did a couple of hikes and the shuttle. It was a relief to get away from the crowds. The road steadily climbs over 20 miles to a reservoir. The terrain goes from rocky canyons, ranch houses, cattle herds, golden aspen forests, and horses- up to deserted high... More

We took this scenic drive in late September. We left the crowds behind in the main park and drove to the reservoir. The road winds thru a very scenic, less traveled part of the park, and ends up at the clear blue waters of the reservoir. We came back the same way as we went in. The was a dirt... More

We drove from Virgin to Kolob Reservoir and then returned back the same way. This is a very scenic road which goes through parts of Zion National Park. There are many hiking trailheads along the way. The scenery is beautiful as you climb higher and higher to the reservoir. Beyond this the road becomes dirt, which is why we retraced... More

The Kolob Terrace Road leads to the Lava Point Overlook, which is a very short trail in the Lava Point campground. We went up there early one evening with some wine, cheese, fruit, and crackers we picked up in Springdale and watched the sunset. I'd recommend you go here AFTER you've visited the main section of the park; you'll recognize... More
