A tunnel with windows that allow you to see out a cliff face as you drive through. If you are starting in Zion Valley stop along the hairpin turns and look for the windows in the solid rock cliff face.

I was looking forward to travelling through the tunnel on our way to Zion NP. We arrived at 11:00am to find that the tunnel was closed, rains overnight had caused a small landslide. They said they hoped to get the tunnel open by 1:00pm or...More

This tunnel is a little over a mile long, and is quite the engineering marvel. There are some air openings to let the exhaust out too. A slow drive but moved well even with some traffic along the way. Perhaps the only way into Zion...More

We loved the drive through the tunnel. It was cool how every few hundred feet there was a new cutout displaying another ominous vision of beauty. Totally recommend.

The engineering that took place to make this tunnel in the 1930's is amazing. 3/4 of a mile of sloped tunnel that comes out onto a sheer rock face is amazing. The tunnel is narrow, so if there are over sized Rv's or trucks, they...More

The history of the tunnel and the creation of Zion NP is interesting. Think about building a mile long tunnel in 1930. Who would have believed that our trucks would get so big. We took the tunnel way coming back from Bryce Canyon. Long Horn...More

One of the challenges in a tunnel that is a mile long relates to engine exhaust fumes.....there were 3 openings in the tunnel (that we saw) and we did not experience any smells. On the return trip (heading back west) they had the tunnel going...More

This is a long tunnel and is necessary to use it to enter/exit Zion NP from the east. There are several windows in the tunnel. When any RVs or wide vehicles go through the tunnel, they close the highway to one lane. Wait times can...More

A marvel of engineering, but now that you cannot stop and look out of the arches it is essentially just a tunnel through a mountain. There was a one-way traffic system in operation when we were there which led to major delays and traffic build...More

Actually got to drive thru the tunnel several times. The checkerboard mesa was cool to see along with the Canyon Trail hike.
