Love to walk round this market, taking in the noise and the smells (some good some not so good), reminds us of the markets we went to in our childhood before they became too sanitised. Try to find "Vithu Cold Drink" for a Lime Soda and a chat with a genuine Goan.

I understand the market is open every day but Friday is the big day. We only went as I particularly wanted to buy some fabric. We got a taxi from Candolim. Our driver waited for us (2 hours) and took us back for about £11 (we also did a quick stop at the Habitat store en route) This place was... More

Mr D'Souza brings home-made paste, pork sausages, and a lot more. Buy home-ground meat marinades, spice mix, and pottery from elsewhere. The potter's corner has a surprising choice of artisan stuff.

Highly recommend a visit to this market on a Friday (we went on another day as well however it wasn't as good as the Friday!). Lots of fabulous things to buy - food, fruit, clothes for men, women and children. I purchased 2 sarees for me and my daughter - beautifully made. Be aware though that when you look European... Jumping over poth holes, side stepping the muddy trail that is almost impossible to avoid (yes I made the unfortunate-debatable though -choice to visit during the height of monsoon)...Mapusa market is a must visit if want to browse and absorb the local culture of north Goa. From shops selling local baked products, to the stalls selling clothes at remarkable (low)... More
