The Flower Garden Banks were discovered by fishermen in the late 1800's and named for the colorful reefs found there. Situated 70 to 115 miles off the coasts of Texas and Louisiana, the sanctuary includes three separate areas: East Flower Garden Bank, West Flower Garden Bank, and Stetson Bank. These protected underwater communities rise from the depths of the Gulf of Mexico atop underwater mountains called salt domes, which are only accessible by boat. Diving and fishing can be enjoyed by visitors through several commercial dive and fishing charter operators that take people out to the sanctuary and the surrounding oil and gas platforms.

Traveled from LA to board The MV Fling. Great boat, great staff, good food. Not luxury accommodations, but I didn't come on this trip to stay in my bunk. The bunks are comfy and dark and that's all I needed. Plenty of room on the boat to do what you need to do. Met some great folks from Tx too.... More

The Flower Gardens are bright and colorful, a coral reef teeming with a huge variety of sea life of all sizes. The water was a stunning deep sapphire blue on the surface and crystal clear high visibility below. Nearby Stetson is a fascinating lunar landscape, stark contrast, also incredible diving. I'm comparing the Flower Gardens with places I have done... More

As the title says I have dove this area for the past three years in July. This time out was the best weather by far and the diving was incredible. Two night dives, two rig dives, and some sea life that I had never witnessed in person before-Atlantic flying fish, Slipper lobsters, and a scorpion fish! Got some great video... More

I did a weekend trip aboard the M/V Fling. We dove on the East and West Flower Garden Bank, a Natural Gas Platform, and Stetson Bank. Each site is unique but truly amazing and abundant in marine life. We saw a giant manta ray, a school of eagle rays, a sandbar shark, numerous eels, giant lobsters, and tons of fish... More

Who would have guessed that a reef existed 110 miles off the coast of Texas? My husband and I boarded the M/V Fling (FlingCharters) on a Friday night. On arising at 6am the next day, we were at the West Flower Garden Bank. After 2 dives, the Fling headed to platform HI - A389 for our next dive, then on... More

Dove the East Bank, West Bank reef, Stetson, and an oil rig. Also a night dive. The reef was beautiful. The MV Fling was great. Wonderful staff! Very safety conscious. The food aboard the Fling was wonderful. Be sure to bring your Bonine!

Without a doubt, one of the most amazing places in the world. Very isolated and teeming with marine life! Great for fishing, diving, and more.

If you want some hard core diving look up one of several charter live aboard dive boats and hit this spot for 3 days. I just got back from the Flower Gardens having went out with Fling Charters and was happy with the trip. This was my second visit (with same crew) and my wife went along well. We saw... More
