In a number of A/C rooms (great on the hot day), an extensive collection of locally dug-up or otherwise unearthed pottery, cookware, ceramics and jewelry from all over Ometepe is lovingly displayed - and explained about by a guide. The building - there is also a numismatic museum next door - is part of a working finca, and set in... More

The whole family visited the museum. It's a little way off the beaten path or where you can hop off a the bus, but is still an easy walk and even easier drive. It is located about 8KM from Moyogalpa. The property is a family farm which happened to unearth some artifacts from island history. Since that time the family... More

The guided tour was informative. The museum also include a coin and banknote museum which we didn't see. But the main attraction are all the pottery displayed in the museum, some dating from 3000 years ago. Around 30-45 minutes

We stopped at the museum on our quad tour of the island. We lucked into an English speaking guide. She led us through two different museums. It costs $8.00/pp for both museums. One is a museum showcasing numerous artifacts found on the island. The second museum is a museum dedicated to the history of currency in Nicaragua. Interesting to note,... More

Great historical museum, artifacts going back 6 thousand years. Amazing! Make sure to visit the bar that serves homemade liquor. We had a great time. Make sure to go through the money museum.

Small museum in a small town with an impressive collection of local artifacts - pottery, jewelry, petroglyphs, The grounds are beautiful, as is the bar. We had a docent who led us through with great knowledge in slow/clear Spanish (he could also speak in English if wanted). After, we went to the bar to try 2 of the traditional beverages... More

Our guide added this museum to our tour at the last minute and we were very glad that he did. It has an amazing collection of pre Columbian ceramics. One of the largest that we have seen anywhere. It is small, only four rooms, but every one is filled with numerous objects. One of the most interesting is a room... More

Private guided tour of the museum with a shot of traditional local version of tequila included! Also a nigh hotel with pool. Definitely worth the money to see some of the history of the island.

Took the bus from Merida to Altagracia to see the museum. Sign said open but it was not :-( Good lesson to have a Plan B! I ended up walking around the park. Vendors, music, good people watching and believe it or not free wifi in the park!

Thank Joanne H
