Well, this is an excellent golf course. The problem was that management put a 5-some ahead of us. We all had carts and caddies, nevertheless an 18 hole round took 5.5 hours. So the on course experience was awful. it is hard to convey this in words. We would wait at the tee for 10 minutes while the 5-some hit shots all over the place. Then we waited 10 minutes on the fairway, then another 10 minutes to putt. The 5-some knew we were there but didn't seem to care. It was so frustrating waiting for them on the green. One bloke would putt. Then after 20 seconds of standing around another one would putt. We asked the caddies if we could play through but there seemed to be some sort of politics involved. Apparently there are caddie hierarchies and ours were not high up on the pecking order. So we waited and waited. This is my friend's favourite golf course in Chiang Mai but I will never play there again. I thought Thailand was a first world country with respect to golf but I guess I was wrong.

Playing golf in the middle of A Thai golf tournament. It’s not something you ever want. So the Golf Course arranged a 40 person golf tournament and didn’t tell anyone else making a tee time that they would be playing immediately behind a group of 40 golfers in a tournament. We waited 10 minutes on the first hole and 15 minutes on the second hole and we’re now over half an hour and just teeing off on the third hole. I think it’s wonderful for them to have a tournament. I also think it would be wonderful if they informed other golfers of what was going on before they choose to spend a five or six hour round here.

I played at the course yesterday. I write this review as I would like to share my experiences and perhaps help other golfers. The course is good and the scenery is beautiful.

When we were starting, my partner and I were asked to join another couple, as there were a number of flights. I had no objections to that. However, one consequence was that instead of having one or two caddies with us, there was now a Gang of Four.

The caddies chatted among themselves incessantly, in loud raucous Thai. Even while players were trying to tee off.

The use of mobile phones. My caddy was on her phone at stops and even while driving. She swerved at times too, due to the one-handed driving. I looked at her and she explained "my friend". Yes, I did not think you were chatting to your enemy.

Helping with telling players of water hazards and OB areas. The other caddy told my partner of the water hazard after he had sunk a ball into it. Not helpful.

Eating and drinking on the course. My caddy had a full canister of coffee and many snacks on the way. At one hole all four caddies brought out foods and had their tea. Obviously, this meant my caddy then had to use the restroom. I could hear her continuing to chat to her friend on her mobile phone while she used the restroom. I had to tell the Marshall that if she wasn't out by the time I was supposed to tee off, I would probably drive off without her. During one of the rides, she offered me half a tangerine, which I declined. She then proceeded to eat it while driving (the one-handed style continues) and chuck the skin into a tree.

I don't want to downplay the Gang of Four syndrome. They would laugh and chat in loud fashion and it is likely they were laughing at us. This is not conducive to playing golf, where you would hope for some external serenity, not a fish market. This was especially jarring on the greens.

Marking balls on greens and crossing lines. Crossing lines happened a lot. My caddy placed a marker squarely on the next lady's line.

Some people like nonstop instruction. I do not. My caddy possibly confused being a good caddy with "give plenty of instruction". She would compliment herself on being able to accurately hand me the right club and when I missed some shots using a club she had not recommended, she pointed this out. Officious behaviour is unlikely to endear, especially since golfers tend to be quite independent thinkers.

It might be a legitimate expectation that caddies repair divots. My partner's caddy would drop him at the ball and drive on in front of him, at times, all the way to the green. Her carrying of the sand bag was perhaps for the visual effect?

The importance of a caddy to a golf game is not trivial and I have met with much nicer caddies in other parts of Asia. There was a lack of discipline, of professionalism. On the other hand, these sort of caddy experiences can be pretty amusing to some persons. There might be good caddies, but to have this sort of behavior looks like the training given to them, and discipline, can be improved. I am happy to provide caddy numbers upon request.

Best course in the area maybe the BEST in Thailand - if you like golf and like to stay in a great place go here - it's not that cheap but it's GREAT value!

Entire package and experience here is enjoyable. Nice clubhouse and facilities, parkland type golf course with not many penalising hazards / tight fairways. Beginner golfers would not have much of a problem here. Better golfers just tee off from the back tees. One of the 2 best courses in Chiangmai

The golf is great. The scenery is magnificent. The course is well maintained. Carts are probably warranted unless you really like walking up and down hills. We played in the rainy season so it was cart path only. We still walked a majority of the time. Great greens. Great clubhouse. Out of 4 top flight courses this week, the Highlands is my favorite course. We did not stay in the resort -only golf.

This is the first golf course we played while in chiangmai. Played the A & B course. The greens on A was very slow even on a downhill putt. But greens was faster and better maintained. Caddies were friendly and competent. We did not very welcome from staffs at the clubhouse unlike others we played. They don't smile or Greet u. Maybe they treasure your patronage. My friends and I agreed we won't play here if we return to chiangmai in the near future.

Chiang Mai Highlands is a high quality Golf course around 50 km from Chiang Mai city. It offers a high level of variety, and is very playable by golfers of most levels. Caddies are helpful and thoughtful, and the club is a very friendly one. Food and beverage options are also some both good and well-priced, a sometimes-unusual combination.
While Highlands may not be of the same quality as Alpine, it certainly is worth a visit, and with the newly-opened Mountain 9, the variety of holes to play has just gone up significantly.
I'd certainly recommend a visit.

I could not figure out how to list this as purely a restaurant review. Perhaps the management could take care of this as the Chiangmai Highlands Golf Resort is an excellent option for dining among sparse listings in the area. We stopped here not to golf, but to eat after spending the afternoon at Flight of the Gibbon. The Golf Resort is on the way back to Chiangmai. The setting is gorgeous and the restaurant has spectacular views of the golf course with mountains in the distance. We were warmly greeted and delighted to have a waitress fluent not only in English, but Spanish as well. Her husband, Panchito, is the chef and there is a nice Mexican menu available in addition to Thai food. The tostadas, guacamole and burritos were delicious! The Thai food was also very good with the Chiangmai noodles being a favorite. It was a real treat to dine on Mexican food with an ice cold beer while enjoying one of the most beautiful views in the world! Service and food both outstanding.

Our group of 16 golfers played here on the 30th July. I rate this and Mae Jo golf course better than the Alpine course which I found disappointing. The layout is very good and clubhouse facilities after the game were first class. If you are travelling to Chiang Mai to play golf I recommend this course
