Good family (teens) hike to the lighthouse where you can stop for a snack, hot drink or even arrange for a picnic.

We visited on a nice summer day in late August and it was a lovely way to spend the morning. Given that the dig site is outside, I would not recommend visiting during bad weather if possible. We started at the museum itself then worked...More

We went through the displays quickly as we arrived close to closing, but the indoor displays were very interesting. The archeological dig outside was very interesting and could be seen at our leisure. Worth it to see this area then take a walk up to...More

Possibly the best presentation of archaeology I've seen anywhere in the world. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Great value for money.

Heading for the light house we didnt expect to find the dig site and students to educate us. Well worth the drive/stop before heading up the hill. Be sure to make a donation to help continue the dig.

The Colony of Avalon is a great little stop. We went on a weekend, so we didn't see any of the archaeologists, but apparently it was a great week for new finds. The guided tour is informative and it was humbling to walk on the...More

guide was informative about the restoration process and the archaeological findings in the old colony, as well as specific buildings in the settlement itself. Also managed to spot a whale in the distance while walking around the vicinity with fellow SHADS.

I would recommend taking the guided tour as opposed to walking it by yourself. The tour was very informative and at the end I the kitchen, the guide was cooking 1600 style food for tasting. A wonderful day
