get some cider and calvados
May 2021
This was the last stop on our first day of D-Day history stops. We tasted ciders, calvados, and pommeau de Normandie. The latter is a delicious, light aperitif. Staff were very friendly and even helped us load up our purchases in the car. We bought a lot. Another group was starting a tour as we finished our tasting so that’s an option as well. Close to Omaha Beach and the Overlord museum.

From the farm deliciousness, esp the Poire
Jun. 2019 • Couples
We visited La Sapiniere during what was probably their most hectic period, during the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings commemoration. The whole area of the landing beaches was crushed by visitors and driving along the scenic roads often turned into a conga-line of modern and historic vehicles.

That beautiful no said, our time at the tasting cellar was peaceful and we were entertained by a very nice young lady, with excellent command of English, who described the cider-ing process. So, even though we were not there during the 2:30 English tour, we came away with a good understanding of the history and making of “cidre” and “poire” (apple and pear cider, resp.) as well as the famous Normandy Calvados. We were able to sample several variations of the cidre and esp. the Calvados (apple brandy), amazing tastes. We happily left left with several bottles of both ciders and a couple different types of Calvados. I was reminded to check whether I’d submitted a review (here it is!) as I sat drinking my last cidre while under quarantine at home, wonderful paired with a roasted pork chop topped with blue cheese and smoked almonds :-)

in addition to the products of the farm, their small gift shop sells other local good and a nice selection of souvenirs. So, as well as the drinks, we left with some gifts to share back home - the regionally made caramels were very well received by family and friends.

Easy to find location, right off the main road connecting the beach sites.

Yum - wish I wasn’t driving!

This is a lovely farm shop with lots of great local wares.
There was a warm welcome for our family and great customer service. We tried Calvados (of different ages), Pommeau and normal apple juice whilst having a good chat.

It’s smart as we ended up buying more than we may have intended but it’s really good stuff and nice to know that it’s produced traditionally and locally.

Only downside was one of us had to drive back so had to refrain from the lovely tastes!

If you like apples this is your place! Family owned & operated, very friendly and, most importantly Delicious products. Apple based whiskey and port-style wine were my favorites. But there are many others in the shop.

That's the spirit

An interesting conducted tour of the farm's cider and calvados production with a well-informed English speaking guide (be there for 2.30). The reasonable price included tasting of apple juice, cider and calvados of different ages. A wide selection of drinks etc available in the farm shop.

Ferme de la Sapiniere was a Fun, Friendly Find!
Jun. 2018 • Family
Ferme de la Sapiniere is one of those places where you later wish that you had spent more time. While in Normandy, I definitely wanted to try some cider. So on our way from Omaha Beach to the American Military Cemetery I spotted this place and pulled in. I'm so happy I did!

First of all, the buildings on the grounds have that distinct Normandy style and there are WWII images on the side of the main gift shop and tasting room. Inside there was a French and American flag hanging. As an American, you always appreciate that gesture. The gift shop has cheeses, honey, snacks and other Normandy-themed gifts. Most importantly, it had a lot of cider for sale!

From the beginning, the gentleman behind the counter, perhaps one of the owners, was unfailingly friendly and communicated quite well in English, though I persisted to attempt my horrible French. He was generous with the tastes and described in great detail the different ciders and why they taste different. It did not take long to sell me. I ended up buying several ciders, with alcohol and sans alcohol for the kids.

Honestly, especially if you are travelling independently, consider stopping by and enjoying a few tastes. Then pick up a few bottles for the rest of your trip or to take home. We purchased some incredibly tasty ciders in the 3.75 to 6.00 Euro range. Somehow cider tastes better when you are drinking it in Normandy.

Great Calvedos
Oct. 2017 • Couples
Local cidery that also has local calvedos - an apple brandy, I think, rather potent but quite good. Odd, slightly disturbing guest there from California - not associated with them - who wanted pictures of us, address, etc. Rather unsettling.
