A gallery built by and devoted to lovely works of art by Marianne North. Right inside Kew Botanical Gardens the gallery shows hundreds of paintings of flowers and scenes from travels undertaken by Marianne North prior to colour photography being available.

Travel around the world in this unexpected gallery. Miss North was a pioneer and an example for women. She traveled to paint in the wild.

Even a non-artist can appreciate the skill (and daring) of the lady who travelled the world capturing in her own style what caught her eye. It's displayed in a very impressive (internally) building.

An amazing collection of work. A brave, talented and adventurous lady. I can't believe she did what she did in the era that she did it.

Marianne North was an intrepid traveller and artist who travelled the world in the 1800's creating botanical artworks from many different countries. The Marianne North Gallery in Kew Gardens is a sight to behold. The walls are packed with her artworks and also with the many wood specimens she brought back from her travels. Girl power...... Marianne North was a single Victorian woman (wealthy, of course) who spent 14 years travelling the world and painting. She gave her collection to The Royal Botanic Gardens and designed the layout of the collection as well as paying for and organising the building of the gallery that houses the collection. Worth a look.

This gallery is a one off and always amazing. Few people come here but it is a MUST for adult visitors to Kew. In the modern extension there is a fabulous exhibition of Japanese botanical watercolours.
