Great views

This is a quick trip from Oranjestad. There are maybe 600 steps leading to the top of Hooiberg, which offers great views of the island. We went around 9 am and even then I'd... read more

We drove around looking for this place...finally found it by accident. Easy to find hooiberg, but finding the stairs not as easy. Plenty of parking. Not crowded when we went at all. It's a good workout, the views climbing the steps are better than what you see at the top! Lots of cacti, etc make for bad viewing. But...we saw... More

We saw this volcano looking mountain from our hotel and had to check it out. We were told the translation for this mountain (for those coming from Colorado - it's a mound of dirt), is "haystack", also told the stairs were built by the Dutch army for their workouts. Access is thru residential neighborhoods to a parking area at the... More

This is a quick trip from Oranjestad. There are maybe 600 steps leading to the top of Hooiberg, which offers great views of the island. We went around 9 am and even then I'd recommend bringing water and sweat-proof sunblock! Parts were a little scary because there are no rails. I was getting dizzy looking at all the stairs going... Went mid-morning and was glad we didn't do this in the middle of the day heat. By our count around 600 stairs to the top with a decently steep incline. Nothing terribly difficult but could be troublesome for those not in the best of shape. At the top there were great views overlooking Aruba. Easy to find and nice little... More

It was neat to climb the Hooiberg all the way to the top. There are multiple platforms along the way where you can stop, turn around and see the town .

This was a great hike up the steps. Our tour guide told us it was 560 steps but there are over 600 steps. Good activity to do early in the morning or late afternoon and stay for sunset. There are parts that are kind of scary because there are no railings but is doable. Definitely take water with you and... More

We spent a day exploring the island. Just before lunch we decided to check out Hooiberg. Since we are avid runners and love mountain racing, we were excited to finally be able to check this out. I ran up while the kids and my husband walked up. Then, my husband ran down as I walked back down with the kids.... More

The Hooiberg is a hill/ small mountain of about 300 steps, but pretty stiff. But when you get up there you have a great view over the Island. It is windy up there. All rocks and natural habitat. So if you feel sporty then this is a great way to spend a few hours doing some activity. Better go early... More
